MSU Football recruiting

really off to a great start for 2023, this is the first class when we're doing all in person recruiting, no virtual visits. We also have some success to build off, this should be our best class in a while.

They were selling 2-5 for the 2022 class and it ended up top 20.

We lead for a lot of 4 stars right now. Jordan is going to land probably 5 or 6 high 4 star D Linemen and we?re right in it for multiple 5 stars because of him. I could see a top 10 class, but top 15 seems totally realistic.

The portal allows us to be more selective with HS kids. 2022 looked like a step back pre portal, not much now

We still have 2 portal spots open, we'll likely give them to 2 linemen. The portal completely eliminates the need to take a flier on a late high school recruit commitment. Even as kid like RB, Andrew Paul, became not a take after he visited MSU, he ended up committing to Georgia, but the staff stopped recruiting him after he visited MSU and instead targeted the Colorado RB transfer.

No one is using the portal as effectively as Tucker is, from going all out with it last cycle, to being more selective this cycle because of numbers limits that were added. Tucker is adding starters or guys who will compete to start only this time around, no development projects like last cycle.

If every off season MSU is going to be able to add 5-7 starters from the portal, it's going to lead to great things. You look at the positions we targeted too, and it's just pretty clear how precise they are targeting weak spots. Got a #1 DE, 2 athletic LBs, a big and fast CB, 2 RBs to help replace Walker, a #1 TE, and we're going to land an OT and IOL IMO. You go from hoping you can develop some young guys to having a proven starter at a spot. And we've got some depth now too.

2022, the team could be better but still not go 11-2, but it's certainly looking like there won't be much of a step back if any.

In summary, Tuck Comin'.

MSU is about to take a commitment from 2023 TX 3 star QB, Bo Edmundson. This will not affect MSU's pursuit of 2023 5 star QB Dante Moore. MSU probably slightly trails ND in Moore's recruitment with Ohio State also in his top 3.

Edmundson is underrated, he can really sling it and Jay Johnson loves him. He's insurance, if Moore picks MSU later, Edmundson would probably look for another school.

5 star 2023 TX RB Reuben Jones is visiting MSU next month. He?s tight with Brandon Jordan who is his primary recruiter. #1 RB in the nation. It?s probably a long shot, but getting a visit is a big deal.

Jordan is a stud, he?s going to land us a lot of top 150 recruits.

Washington State C/OG has transferred to Michigan State. He was a center last year and on the Rimington award watch list. Allows us some flexibility inside with Samac, Duplain, Carrick, and now Greene. Vandemark is supposed to be close to contributing so he'd be the 5th guy. This was a must get as Samac was the only serviceable center on our roster.

1 spot left for transfer unless the staff appeals to get a 2nd. I'd love to see is filled with a starting OT. But there's a DE from Georgia Tech who might end up here as well.

Surprised I haven't heard anything about this kid on here. It's down to us, PSU and so car. Seems like a PSU lean having made 4 visits and posted a pic of himself in a PSU uni 2 days after visiting MSU, but maybe Jordan tips the scales a bit. He's a 4 star but doesn't have a national ranking on Rivals - not sure if that means anything but based on his Instagram/Twitter, this kid may have a bit of an overinflated ego...

He's in the mix, as is Jalen Thompson from Cass Tech. But we'll likely only take one of their commitments. We're saving 1 or 2 DE spots for higher ranked guys.

A couple DEs we will get visits from, but I don't expect to land are 5 star David Hicks (4th overall recruit in the country), and 5 star Jayden Wayne #30 overall recruit in the country. Both are tight with Jordan. Enow Etta is also in the mix, 4 star and 161st in the country.

If I had to guess, we land Thompson and Etta to go along with the already committed 4 star Andrew Depaepe.

Cole Dellinger, 4 star OL from MI, just got a run of crystal balls to MSU after visiting his brother at LSU. He's visiting MSU next week and will be on Commit watch.

I doubt we get commitments from both anyway, looks like the Lenhardt kid is going to psu.

I'm gonna go out on a limb now and call this Depaepe kid a disappointment - maybe not a disappointment, more like a lower ceiling. I haven't watched film or anything like that but I just have a feeling a big farm boy from Iowa probably hasn't faced a lot of competition so I'm not getting my hopes up. I'm guessing he's gonna be another Panasiuk - not terrible, but not the next JJ Watt.

I'd be more than happy to have him prove me wrong, but I'm setting my expectations at serviceable B1G DE.

Not according to Allen Trieu who says he's seen him in camp settings and he's impressive and easily worthy of his ranking. Has the bend, length, and get off to be an elite pass rusher.

4 star DE Jalen Thompson from Cass Tech, 180st overall in the country is visiting MSU tomorrow. His time line has moved up and it's looking more and more like he'll commit to MSU sooner rather than later.

4 star safety/CB Ryan Yaites or TX, 131st overall in the country just got a crystal ball to MSU from one of the Texas Longhorn writers. This was based on discussions the writer had with Yaites this weekend. It's a Texas Tech vs MSU battle for him. This could happen before Summer IMO.

time will tell. again, i'll be happy to be proven wrong but given these guys aren't all that accurate with 5 star kids, I'm sticking with my prediction for now. I wouldn't be at all surprised to read someone said the same about either Panasiuk.

5 Star DE David Hicks from TX is visiting MSU April 16th. #4 overall player in the country. This is another kid Jordan has worked with, Jordan is the reason we are getting this visit.

4 star DE Enow Etta visiting again and is on commit watch. This is a good one, this is thought to be a UM and MS battle, but he's not visiting UM, he's visiting MSU for the second time in a couple weeks and still has his official scheduled to MSU in June.
