MSU vs MTSU

One thing about this game that you can say in most close games but there were a few points where we were down 1 and gave up a 3 or 3pt play, then we were down 2 and had clean looks for 3 from Denzel and Forbes and missed. Those were killer

EVERY possession should have went to the post. They couldn't stop our post players. The only one that stopped either Costello or Davis from scoring was Izzo.

Well we shot 55 from the floor and 45 from 3 and still lost. We turned it over a lot early with 10 in the 1st but only 14 for the game. I'm not blaming offense at all

That was tough to watch at work. The shits they hit from beginning of the game to the end are just unbelievable. Our defense was beyond bad. They seriously did whatever they wanted on the offensive end.

No program is immune to an early loss, but damn that doesn't take away from the disappointment. This was the year where we honestly had the best chance of winning it.

For all of those wondering about minutes for certain guys it was all about finding someone who could guard their stretch 4, Upshaw. Izzo used davis, Clark, goins, bess, schilling at 4 (which he rarely plays) and finally wolenman.

The one that surprises me is Clark only getting 3 or 4 minutes. Izzo sometimes treats defenders like relief pitchers, after you pull them they can't go back in.

wollenman wasn't the answer and he should have been pulled right away for someone who also couldn't stop upshaw but at least gives you offense.

missing the front end of two 1-and-1s didn't help either

Forbes and Valentine were 36% on 25 shots. Costello and Davis were 78% on 18 shots. Sometimes its good to look beyond the total number. Of those 14 turnovers that you mentioned, not a single one was by a post player. Every single one was by a guard. We were not efficient on offense unless we were going through the post.

We were down 1 pt with 3:34 to go and went 1-5 from 3, mixed in with 2 of the worst traveling offenses I've ever seen from Harris and Denzel to finish the game. Not one single attempt from a post player.

Exactly

We couldn't stop them defensively no matter what we tried. We should have at least gave our offense a better shot late in that game.

I've hit 21-24 on my bracket so far. Missed Purdue and USC yesterday and obviously the MSU game today.

Yet my bracket is now in the garbage because I had MSU losing to Kansas in the final.

That's why I NEVER pick MSU to get past the sweet 16. Cause now I'm pissed twice lol

80%, he won't get a first round grade despite what some mocks say.

Some mocks have him close to the Top 10. I'd say it's pretty darn likely he's getting a first round grade. If he comes back it's going to be because he wants to, to be on a loaded team next year. But usually those sorts of things don't play into the thought process that much. I'd put it at about 50-50 right now.

In reality it would probably be smart to go now as this year's freshman class is considered pretty weak, which is one reason why the scouts are comparatively high on him. I hope he gives it one more year, though.

This is the worst I have ever felt after a game. I just cannot believe it. I will never pick MSU to win a title again in brackets, it's a double whammy when they lose. It starts and ends with Denzel and izzo. Denzel looked drunk still from St Patrick's day, that was the sloppiest performance I've ever seen from a player like him. And let's keep benching Davis for Wollenman. One is a lottery pick, one is a fucking walk on. If I'm Davis there's not a chance in hell I stay and deal with this bullshit. Ridiculous that tom screwed him over and screwed the team and fans over in the end.

Also, I don't care what Vegas says, this is the biggest upset in NCAA tournament history. Nobody was picking Missouri to win the title when they lost or Iowa state, Duke, Arizona, etc. we were the favorite in Vegas to win the whole damn thing I believe.

During the selection show I was shocked that they were a 15.

I don't remember a Conference USA champion ever being seeded that low. I'm not saying it's never happened, but I don't remember it.

Weve been playing with house $ for a long time. Many years weve exceeded expectations and this tourney was the one year weve been waiting to drop a game to a big underdog. We were outhustled on the boards and izzo really did a poor job of using the correct lineups. I dont know why he wants to sit superior players or pull players once they start feeling it but he does. I think our luck just ran out.

Again we see Michigan fans dedicating threads to us, discussing our losses:shrug:. When has there been a thread dedicated to michigan here? I cant remember one in 2-3 years Ive seen dozens there. We are discussed there all the time for some odd reason. Not only that, the fact im discussing it right now is one of the only MENTIONS youll hear about them on this board at any point. I guess getting butt fucked for 10 years in football and 20 years in basketball draws that kind of negative attention.

Yeah I am not sure it has happened. MTSU has been a solid program for a while now and are well coached. They have some solid players but I never thought their depth would have done them in. But now that I think of it, during the tournament I don't think depth matters a ton(unless foul trouble) because of all the commercials.

Nearly every program I can think of if they are highly seeded enough years has a loss like this somewhere in the tournament. I guess this year was our turn.

Ultimately I guess the team was done in by being a pretty average defensive team by Izzo standards for all the good things they did offensively. Yes I know statistically their defensive FG% is pretty good and they had seemed to improve from earlier in the season, but they didn't turn the other team over very much (4 steals per game is horrible) and couldn't impose their will on opponents often enough at that end, especially today when they needed to be lockdown for the last 10 minutes after playing from behind all game.

We couldn't stop dribble penetration all year. Shields killed us with it when Nebraska beat us, Gessell killed us by driving and scoring in both of our losses to Iowa, and MTSU had 3 guys we couldn't stay in front of. We just weren't a very quick footed team defensively. MTSU was great today.

We'll be good to great next year.
