Next GM and Head Coach

It can work for top-tier candidates (thinking Andy Reid-KC), but guys like that will never come to Detroit. Like always, the Lions will have to gamble on someone inexperienced or hire some mediocre retread because that?s all they can get.

I?m already preparing myself for a Marvin Lewis hire and a decade of 7-8 win seasons.
If we hire Marvin Lewis I will go to a doctor and delete my memories.

The Lions are the laughing stock of the NFL. They won't get the best GM or coaching candidates because those people will choose a better franchise. They won't get the best free agents because players with options won't choose the Lions. They will continue to suck. :lmao:

What are you talking about, Detroit has landed Jesse James and Amendola.

So its not quinns and patricias or mayhews and caldwellz fault if they cant get good fa..screwed from the start due to russ thomas and millen in your opinion..also the shitty city of detroit itself is a great hindrance

Should have moved to la or vegas

You don?t get to slag Detroit. Or, if you do, no one cares. You always have the option to support the team With No Name, from the City With No Scruples.

Feel Free.

Draft well and everything else will fall into place, this is where the Lions always seem to fail. They shouldn’t have to lure top FAs here to fill holes.

I'd say its the number one reason FAs don't come there though. I'm good with it. Enjoy my visits to Ford Field. Has a real bad rep for sure and gotta beg people to come there.

Move the team and it wouldn't be a problem

Detroit is just game week. The rest of the time players are at their homes in suburbs. I haven't been to Detroit in a long time but some say it continues to get better. Don't know.

I say the #1 reason is the franchise, not its location. If the Lions? organization was not more dysfunctional than a family of drug addicts, players would be more interested. The other professional teams in DET had success signing FA when they were good.

Location and negative fans are the problem. Nobody wants to play for fans who piss and moan all the time.

You are describing the fan base of every professional sports franchise in the world, since the 1869 Cincinnati Redlegs.

If that were true, Philly and NY wouldn't even have professional teams. Philly fans are the fucking worst.....followed closely by NY.

Tom is right......it gets out that the Lions are not well run and guys know that going to Detroit is a money grab. They know they're not winning a ring here.

More than anything you've mentioned is the brand marketing potential players have here. It's almost zero. What Detroit athlete has a major national name? State Farm isn't knocking on Kenny "my hip hurts" Golladay's door are they??

Players care about that.....or at least their agents tell them to. Young, sought after talent isn't coming here until we start winning......and that won't happen until we start hitting our draft picks.

The fact that the Lions have sucked for 60 years and haven’t relocated yet shows how much the fans support this team. Being critical means we still care. The other Detroit teams were able to turn it around and win a championship in the last ~30 years with many of the same fans who follow the Lions. The fans aren’t the problem.

Correct. And neither are the refs (though big calls always seem to go against us) the weather, the injury bug, luck or even Matt Millen. The issue is our front office and coaching. And all that falls back on the Fords.

Players do pay attention to negativety. lions fans are most negative there is. lions fans think they are going to lose before they even play the game. That is the problem. Philly fans boo if they are playing poorly. There is a huge difference there. I've seen some of you already writing off next season lol. We don't even have a GM/HC and you are writing off the season.

You are negative before the sucking occurs. And players can see that. Social media is huge and players are very aware.

City itself, negative fans are huge problems.

Ownership doesn't meddle and provides plenty of support. They have just picked bad GMs who picked bad head coaches at times. And they have been too loyal to them. But Sheila is looking different in that regard. Now let's see if they pick the right combo and make the personnel changes needed.

Patricia/Quinn basically had to look for ex Patriot players only because of the fans/situation/history. So they had a great plan for that but botched some day 2 drafts. And the ex Pats were good player added for the most part. Day 2 draft was the killer along with Patricias scheme and just overall conservatism. And then you have injuries, cap reasons, talented players sometimes just not getting it and executing, good players regressing. There are so many factors.

And refs do have some unconscious bias it seems. And that is a huge disadvantage when you are already just scrounging to try and win games. Makes it even worse if all the big calls go against you. I have never seen a huge call and been like, oh the Lions got luck there and it was a game changing call for a Lions win.

And each year is different. Try and remember that. They'll get the right combo soon enough
