Detroit Tigers promote hot-hitting third baseman Nick Castellanos to Double-A Erie.

On Castellanos, now headed to Erie; He's a 3B, not 2B. If that doesn't work, will try LF.
Bat impressive, defense needs work. ETA Sept 2013.

Ugh its so hard. Because you excited that he is doing so well but you know its years not months till he is in the MLB.

Assuming he's not dealt before then.

Ilitch wants to win now.

The win now path everyone thinks Ilitch is on doesn't mean he's going to make trade after trade.

Or else we wouldn't be stuck with no 2B and poor COF play.

But we are stuck with a hole at 2B and need a corner OF, and the only way we're going to get them is from a trade.

Why not in the off-season if he was in such a win now mode? Everyone knew we had no 2B.

No they didn't.

We had Raburn and Santiago and nobody thought they would be anywhere near as bad as they have been. Take off your rose colored hindsight glasses.

And don't forget people expected big things from Young and Boesch also, on paper before the season our only question mark was the 5th starter.

Exactly, we had Raburn and Santiago, lol. Even if you're a Raburn guy he was still no 2B.

Its funny to think someone passed on an upgrade because we had Raburn and Santiago :lmao:

There were no real upgrades.

I remember a bunch of people calling for Jamey Carroll, and he's been garbage.

And Raburn's problem was never his defense, we expected to have poor INF defense, we just expected to overcome it with run scoring.

If the spring training Raburn had showed up, it would not be an issue.

And I actually think the Corner OF (Young and Boesch) have been far bigger disappointments so far than second base, which is never usually a high production spot.

I get that the 2B upgrades weren't plentiful so why are they now on June 5?

"If the spring training Raburn had showed up, it would not be an issue." - why? Its an issue most of the time, slow starts.

he didn't say they were plentiful, just that a trade is the only way we could conceivably get one since we have zero minor league 2B options.

Going into the season with Raburn at 2B was a bad idea at the time, everybody knew it.

Signing Delmon Young was a bad idea at the time, everybody knew it.

Having Raburn play out of position, having Delmon play LF, and having Cabrera at 3rd and Fielder at 1st guaranteed we'd be the worst defensive team in all of baseball.

Kelly Johnson was out there, shoulda signed him and put Raburn in left, and non tendered Delmon Young.

We sacrificed defense to a ridiculous degree, and our defense will probably cost us 5-7 games this year.

Shouldn't be too long before that certain group of fans are yelling for Castellanos to come up now.

That's not what he said.
yes it is.

see? nothing about plentiful options. in fact, nowhere in any post of his in this thread do i see him saying there were plentiful options. where do you get this from?

I was never upset with Miggy going to 3rd because we added a good bat and got rid of Inge at the same time.

But yes, a 2B was a big need in the off-season. And DY got way too much cash and Leyland saying "he'll be in left" - bad ideas.

while i agree overall, johnson wasnt ever really out there because he accepted arbitration from the jays. maybe if we'd made a hard enough push to convince him otherwise we could have gotten him (wish we would have).
