81. Detroit Lions (from Vikings): Will Harris, S, Boston College

Will Harris is a fantastic speed and movement athlete, showing the ability to attack alleys or carry receivers vertically and horizontally. However, he plays too reactionary, which severely limits his playmaking potential at the next level – Harris registered only four passes defended over 26 starts the last two seasons. ~Dane Brugler

“I’m not surprised at all to see the Lions make a move for Boston College S Will Harris. Their current defensive coordinator, Paul Pasqualoni, was an assistant at B.C. from 2016-17, so he probably helped seal this decision. Harris also played at the Senior Bowl and had 41 college starts, both of which appeal to this front office. He’ll maybe be their No. 3 safety? Or at least in contention for that job?” ~Chris Burke

Rd 4 give me michael Jordan, Jalen jelks, riley Ridley or amani oruwariye....or someone we never heard of will work.

We all have different opinions. Plus an inaccurate passer bad pick. Yes I know you think Matt is the bees knees but just awful pick.

Of course we all have different opinions but Hockenson is a hell of a football player. Maybe not worth a #8 pick but you can't denying his football abilities. I don't expect somebody like you to get it tho. This is a move to help Bevel get HIS offense. Dominating TE's that do everything really well. Control the clock and run the football. Take your shots downfield or hit them with the shortys. This is going to be a very mixed offense.

2nd rd pick baffled the hell out of me but the kid was super productive. Over 300+ tackles and almost 20 sacks in his career. Plus teams like Green Bay and New England were possibly interested?? Definite reach but let's see him play. Patricia's schemes turn some of these guys into ballers. Okwara is a prime example....

They were possibly interested in round 2? This might be worse than that braindead long snapper pick

??? He was espn's 3rd rank ILB and other places I looked had him late 2nd/3rd rounder... So maybe we did reach a bit but like has been said before, other teams were interested so could we really have gotten him later? Can't compare this to taking a long snapper in the late rounds....

I would have gone:
Jonah williams/devin bush
Irv Smith/greedy Williams
Jaylon ferguson

Fuck you quin... let's play 6 damn safeties on the fucking field.

I would had LOVED Bush/Smith/Ferguson.... Would have been an A+ from me.

I don't mind the Harris, as I think he was the best S left. But with Layne and Ferguson still on the board, kind of confusing we go with a guy who will be our 3rd saftey... Like Hughes said we just going to play 3 safties all game long? From what I've read he's a pretty good slot guy so we'll see what happens....

I'm glad ESPN ranked him well..lol. It was a shit draft from a shit team.

You don't watch a lick of college according to yourself, so I think I'll go ahead and trust BQ and Patricia and let the guys we drafted play at least 1 down before I call it a shit draft.

Maybe, maybe not, but we could've gotten one hell of a corner to play opposite Slay, or a better and more explosive lb in Winovich, or maybe even a offensive guard.

Yeah okay sure. If you can't complain about your teams draft picks then what good is a draft thread for.

The Lions selected linebacker Jahlani Tavai from the University of Hawaii.
That is...a surprise selection to say the least considering some of the players still on the board. He's a big man at 6-foot-2, 250 pounds and had 42 tackle3s and two sacks last season. His best season came in 2016, when he had 116 tackles and seven sacks. He'll give the Lions a potential playmaker in the middle and give the team flexibility with Jarrad Davis to turn him into even more of a pass-rusher.
Bob Quinn said it's a different process scouting players from Hawai'i, like Jahlani Tavai. Said there was a lot of interest around him around their pick. Felt he had a really unique body type in terms of what they were looking for. Said he's off the radar because he plays in Hawaii.
espn

The Lions traded up from No. 88 to No. 81 in the third round to take Will Harris out of Boston College -- competition for last year's third-round pick, Tracy Walker for a starting safety spot. He has good speed (4.41 second 40-yard dash) and has some strength with 20 reps on the bench press. He's a big hitter who understands coverage concepts. This is a strong mid-round selection by the Lions and gives them depth in the secondary, where Miles Killebrew and Tavon Wilson are entering the final year of their contracts.
Will Harris: "This is the best day of my life." Said he knew whenever he got picked it would be time to go. He's at home in Atlanta around family when he got the call from Detroit. Said he thinks he's coming to the best fit for him because of his familiarity with Paul Pasqualoni.

This isn't the all powerful ESPN lol but..

Here's a look at the Lions' 2019 draft picks.
1st round, 8th overall | T.J. Hockenson, TE, Iowa

Analysis: The Lions drafted a tight end high up again. Hockenson is not the athlete that Eric Ebron is, but he will be a three-down tight end that can be used in the slot or as a blocker on the line of scrimmage.
Instant Grade: C-plus
2nd round, 43rd overall | Jahlani Tavai, LB, Hawaii

Analysis: Tavai is a tackling machine, but here? Not a fan for the Lions with a need for receivers and so many available.
Instant Grade: D
3rd round, 81st overall (from Minnesota) | Will Harris, S, Boston College

Analysis: Like most of the safeties picked in this draft, Harris plays the first 20 yards well. From there, it's a crapshoot.
Instant Grade: C-plus

Ok moving up 7 spots is no big deal to me for a third round pick doesn’t bug me to much. I wish Quinn would acquire more picks like New England does. But it is what it is.

But that 2nd Round Pick has bust written all over it. He is a 4th Round talent or higher at best. So some other teams had said they liked him? Maybe those teams are throwing out smoke screens to try and get another team (Detroit did) bite and pick the kid to early. The draft is like poker, and Quinn was siting with Aces and 8’s in this pick. Should have reached for him in the third or fourth. Heck he has a shoulder injury that caused him to misss most of last season! Let me see... yup the conference he plays in is not the toughest .

Pick #1. Like I said even if Hockenson becomes a hall of fame type player you just don’t draft a tight end in round one. The that is just me. Damn we could have had Oliver, Bush or many other players. Tight ends are a luxury pick and the Lions seem to not learn from past mistakes.

Like the rest of you I sure hope I am wrong and Quinn and Patrica know what they are doing but I just don’t see it right now.
