Other Games - NCAA Basketball version

Let?s see how the other conference tournaments play out . But that list is a good start. I would lean not giving one Conference three number 1 seeds. Maybe MSU can snag one if the win the big ten tournament. Heck they probably will keep Gonzaga at number 1. It is a shame because while the Conference they play in has improved it is not a grind like the Acc, big ten, sec, and big 12. Heck the pack 12 is better then the zags Conference in my opinion.

Give the winner of the bTT a 1 seed if it is MSU, Michigan, or even Purdue...

I think MSU or Purdue deserve a #1 for sure if they win BTT. Regular season and tourney champs in one of the toughest conferences in the country says a lot.

Gonzaga is 4-3 in Quad 1 games this year. They play in the Dog Shit Taco conference that Rutgers would win if they traded places with Gonzaga. None of that equals being deserving of a 1 or 2 seed. Their ceiling should be a 3.

A lot of the seeding is total BS. Four "12 seeds" shouldn't have to go through "play in" games. The four 16's and four 15's should be in the play in games for the right to play the number 1's

is that what they're doing this year? in the past it's been 2 play-ins for 16 seeds and 2 for 11 seeds. But even that makes no sense. It seems seems so obvious that it should be the way you described (4 play-ins for 16 seeds), I don't understand how they could even think this makes sense or how the committee can defend the decision to do it that way.

Just ask Virginia if they wish UMBC had to win a play-in game 2 days before then fly to Charlotte from wherever it was held. Last year, there were 2 play-in games on the same 1/4 of the bracket.

someone, I think it was Pat Forde, noted that the extra "play-in" games were orginally added as a way to give small conference teams that were really bubble candidates (i.e. had strong seasons but lost their conference tourneys and only auto_bid chance) a shot.

but he pointed out that in recent years the number of major conference teams taking up spots in play-in games has increased and was now over half.

they should probably go back to the old way of doing it.

Since the #16 Is destined to lose immediately, not unlike the slaves in the movie “Gladiator,” rather than the eight least undeserving teams, not to get the four most entertaining matchups?

Let’s take that team that Gonzaga beat the night before the Zags lost, that Malibu school for the victims of leprosy and amputation.

How about match them against the Compton College for the Deaf and Mute?

That way you have two interesting situations-contrasting disabilities plus social and economic disparity.

You can match a Jewish college up against an Islamic college, maybe the Southern California Crips against the greater New York area Bloods-there are countless interesting matchups
that one could conceive of.

Now-THAT would be a play in round that I would watch!

I saw one projection putting MSU as the final #1 if we can win the BTT (with Ward's injury playing a part, though we were 4-1 without him) and dropping Gonzaga to a 2. Another projection still kept Gonzaga as a 1 for now.

I'd think differently if that was their first loss, of if they were 2-1 instead of 1-2 in their games with Duke, UNC, and Tennessee. But 4-3 in Quadrant 1 isn't a 1 seed resume. And this St. Mary's team is not the caliber of some others in recent years that was often a match for Gonzaga.

This sounds like the NCAA equivalent of Bum Fights, except in the Compton/Malibu matchup where as you pointed out, you have the added wrinkle of the wealth gap. I never got into Bum Fights but as I recall, they were ahead of their time - one of the earlier viral video franchises, ages before the Kimbo Slice backyard brawls or World Star videos.

Showtime?s ?Shameless? just depicted ?The Hobo Games,? In which the Gallagher family patriarch, Frank Gallagher, is competing to win $10,000 as of the worlds most homeless hobo.

Ironically William H. Macy, who plays Frank Gallagher in the series, suddenly find himself embroiled in a situation involving college, college athletics, and money for unseemly activities.

yeah, I saw that his wife has been indicted but so far he hasn't been charged. pretty messed up - something like 50 people have been arrested from parents to counselors, consultants and college admissions personnel.

Clemson up 42-26 at halftime in the Acc tournament gets out scored 33-16 in the second half and loses 59-58. Clemson has a beef about the officiating. It was awful.

I started a thread about it on the ?Diggler?s Junk? forum, so I don?t talk about it too much here; but just to conclude, the chick on YouTube, Olivia Jade, has already made herself worth almost half $1 million-just out of high school, her own freaking money-from those stupid YouTube videos!

on the "bracketology" area on ESPN they have two 12's playing and two 11's

I think the ratings of 4 games with 16+ seeds playing each other for the chance to get slaughtered by a 1 seed was pretty low, so they have tried in recent years to get some major conference teams in the mix.

It probably isn't the best thing for the tournament, though. The play-in games are pretty pointless anyway and I wouldn't mind them doing away with them altogether. They won't though. They'll just try to make them more interesting.

Agreed. I don't even consider those games a part of March Madness. That's why they're called play-in games.

For marketing and promotional purposes, networks have started referring to every game played in March as being a part of ?March madness?-to them it?s no longer just in the NCAA tournament anymore.

syracuse was a play in for an 11 seed last year and they made the sweet 16 or was it elite 8? and loyola chicago, altho not a play-in was also an 11 seed. i get the point about wanting betr ratings for these games but to me (i think these games shudnt exist at all) thats not worth eliminating 4 teams that have a much betr shot at making the tournamnet more exciting before the tourney begins. make these shitty autobids duke it out or get rid of the game altogether.

they are essentially eliminating teams that they think are better than 30% of the field just to make it a little more interesting?

That's fine. Fans still know that March Madness is the actual tournament.
