This kind of leads to the same "opportunity" as Westbrook. OKC wants to move Paul. They don't want him dragging the team to 30 wins anymore than he wants to play for a 30 win team.
The issue (just like Westbrook) is his gigantic contract and age. There's no denying that he's on the decline. He's missed 21, 24, and 24 games in the last 3 years. He's not going to play the full season. He can't just get wherever he wants on the court anymore, his former agility becoming more of a shifty prodding with infinite counters. BUT, he's still the point-god. He sees the floor as well as anyone from any era, he's a pinpoint passer, and he can create openings for his teammates. At 34, he's still miles better than Reggie.
3 years, 124 million (38, 41, 44). Should the Pistons be willing to take that on? Would an old-man's Lob City be entertaining enough (and good enough) to bring back fans?
Personally, I'd say yes. CP3's contract is the same length as Blake's. It's one year longer than Drummond's. For the next two years, this team is capped out and barely a playoff team in the Leastern Conference. I'd rather just ride out the end of CP3s career with Blake and Andre than keep watching the current product. The money sucks for the Pistons, but that's for Gores to worry about. Give us entertainment, and maybe the fans will actually start coming to the games again.
