Hill was a Linehan guy. Hill's two year deal he signed in 2012 had a 2.2 million and 3.2 million cap numbers. I'd expect a similar deal for Hill if the Lions decide they want him as their vet backup. I could see them starting over with a new backup just as easily though.
I just don't see the point. Stafford seems to have shaken off the injury-prone label and Hill didn't even throw a pass last season. Hill was #27 in 2013 as far as QB cap hits go.
Top 10 Cap Hits and their backups
1. E. Manning - 20.85MM, Painter - 630K
2. Stafford - 17.8MM, Hill - 3.25MM
3. P. Manning - 17.5MM, Osweiller - 800K
4. Brees - 17.4MM, L. McCown - 555K
5. Brady - 13.8MM, Mallett - 800K
6. Rivers - 13.7MM, Whitehurst - 1.8MM
7. Roethlisberger - 13.6MM, Gradkowski - 1.28MM
8. Sanchez - 12.85MM, Smith - 900K
9. Bradford - 12.6MM, Clemons - 585K
10. Vick - 12.2MM, Foles - 655K
One of these is not like the others. I just think the money is better off going towards a player or players who will see the field more and contribute. Get a young promising QB in the mid-rounds this draft if they feel it's important. If Stafford, goes down the Lions are fucked anyway.
