Preseason Game 2: Lions @ Browns Thread

Also, the officials look confused on every call.

The referee has some kind of disorder when speaking. He also seemed to lose his train of thought 3-4 times, just prior to describing the penalty.

Lions look terrible tonight.

On the bright side, a game like this is great for tempering optimism. If reggie and calvin aren't on the field at the same time, the offense looks like shittypoop. MAN that sucks.

My impression from week one to week two hasn't changed, Carey blows.

The secondary is junk. I don't think even LKP could put a positive spin on it. I'd like him to try though..

I'm out of the country but checked the box score and was really disappointed in the defensive stats particularly. The offense looks like it blew as well...didnt get it past half in the first quarter? I guess our wrs outside Calvin looked good simple by going up against our poor DBS.

Ansah didn't show up in the box either but booger made a few comments that he looked good. I love Slay, a few posts said he looked good too. Also from the posts above it looks like our secondary sucked and it showed, Weeden and Campbell looked like monsters in the box.

If anyone cares to elaborate a bit (run game? Looks like reggie got stuffed, Etc) it would be appreciated. Also elrod hopefully you bet against us today.

Offense sucked, looks like Stafford is going to take 3Q's before he gets going. Run game looks the same, bush will be a monster with check downs.. D wise the line looks good, fairley is a beast. LB, DB's sucked. Looks like its going to be more of the same. It is only preseason so things could turn around.

I always here from the inside out. So each year they work on DL, with good talent. The guy they just picked up and the couple guys before.. But secondary they ignore year after year. Yeah, we signed a S and grabbed a CB in the draft. But this team is more than a S and CB from not sucking. We have guys like Carey, and Bentley, and Greenwood etc.

They suck bad..

Thanks schles.

Every year it's just the same ol' disapointing shit, team weaknesses look very much the same as last year.

JS will get fired at years end and another cycle revamp and new systems in store for 2014 ultimately leading to the same cycle end result of nothing

Rinse wash repeat

On and on and on..cycle of shit never ends

Not sure what people expected from our defense...its basically the same dline, lbs are worse and the only upgrade in the secondary was quin.

Preseason is preseason. Reggie looked great, pretty much confirmed the obvious sentiment I have had that he will be used like Jahvid best, an underneath passing game that is pretty much our run game. Leshoure looks bad, Bell looks better. Pettigrew can't catch still.

Not Overly impressed with anything about our offense, especailly play calls. How much is just preseason vanilla playcalling and how much is it Linehan saying hes going to be a passive playcaller again?

opposing qbs are 48/68 for a 71% comp %, thrown a punch of tds and not many picks, have a qbr of like 112 combined, and haven't been touched. I think we had 3 qb hurries vs the browns lmao. defense blows.

I noticed the line actually caused a number of hurries on the quarterbacks. The problem was that all the QB had to do was toss the ball in the air and our DBs wouldn't be anywhere close to their mark (besides Houston). Announcers mentioned that Gunther had the DBs playing differently than they would in the regular season to see how they hold up, and I really hope that's true, but Bartell should be in for red zone jump balls and nothing else.

Also, our offense had no idea what they were doing without Calvin. It's this kind of thing that really makes me question Stafford as a QB. He obviously has the numbers, but he doesn't make his WRs better - Calvin makes him look better.

Swartz should have been fired after the end of last season due to the end of 2011 last year's debacle!

The lbs are worse, but we upgraded the secondary with Quin and Slay (although they haven't started him yet...), and the DEs are better than last year.
Ansah > Avril
Idonije > VandenBosch

everyone hated avril for his shortcomings but the truth is if you expect ansah to be better than him in year 1 I think you will be disappointed. Id be very surprised if a rookie DE produces as much as avril in regards to sacks and hurries. It seems he will easily contribute more to the run defense but that's hard to tell since the browns ran all over us....so how much does it really help?

KVB did suck last year....but in 2 games I don't think ive even heard jones or idonije's names get called once. That needs to change.

I like the depth on the dline a lot more this year than last but im not so sure they are going to outperform last years group unless ansah is a miracle child.

I really like slay too....im just worried that our coaches are too stupid to play him. Hopefully he starts preseason game 3.

I'm expecting Ansah to be just like Avril. Struggle against good blockers but excel against lesser talent. Add in all the junk that Fairley and Suh send his way and he should have good production. One good thing that he has over Avril is that a TE can't pancake him in the run game so the LB's should be able to make plays against the run.

They are playing more press, which I think is what they have wanted to do all along but never had the talent. So far they haven't looked very good doing it with people running free.
