BUYER BEWARE. Must read.
Totally Tigers
Goodness, more than a week later, the Detroit Tigers continue to beat the Ron-Gardenhire-had-to-retire-for-health-reasons drum. Any Warhol had a famous comment about everyone getting their 15 minutes of fame, but geez, this is ridiculous.
When Brad Ausmus left, absolutely zippo was written about him.
But now we?ve got daily stories oozing from friends, family and assorted pets about how Ron told them he was leaving. Just waiting for that interview with his kindergarten teacher to hit.
The problem is, these same newspapers printed identical articles one week before his departure quoting Ron about his plan to sit down with Al Avila at the end of the year to discuss a possible contract extension.
Oops.
The Tigers are hoping you will have forgotten all about those pieces.
Whether Gardy was told this would be his last year and he decided to leave before that last road trip or whether he was fed up and simply made the decision to leave, we?ll likely never know. But we do know something happened. And if you don?t believe that, simply watch the presser from his last day. He and Al Avila were definitely not on friendly terms ? or even close.
But this blog is not about that event. It?s about the continuous effort by this organization to spin story after story so the team always looks good. It?s to quell the controversy that hasn?t been going away fast enough. It?s to keep the stain from sticking.
As someone who works regularly with pr and crisis management companies, this flood of stories looks familiar. It?s called a saturation campaign.
