I don't get it. A decent T for cheap why wouldn't you pick up the option?

Whose his replacement, R or L? LaAdrian Waddle your ass over to the salad bar and get me some croutons? Just sign him to the fifth year and move him to right if you want, who cares?

Worry about Levy, Slay has 2 years as does Ansah, pick up option or work out a longterm deal with Reiff

I love how even the guys mayhew draft that actually play he pretty much devalues and doesnt think theyre worth being paid marginal $ its comical...

Well when you shoot yourself by overpaying other contracts, you have nothing to pay others a decent and competitive amount.

I fear that Mayhew is going to just keep letting talent walk out the door until we are out of cap trouble. With his history of drafting players, we could well be a bottom feeder team again in another year or two. :(

It's not like we're prominent now.

Getting to the playoffs again has been a nice change from 0-16 and the regular top five picks we had under the patron saint of losing, Matt Millen.

But one year in a row? It's not like they're consistent winners..and no playoff wins.

I guess. If a franchise continues to accept mediocrity that is what we will continue to get.

This is a nonsensical statement. For one, the franchise doesn't get to accept mediocrity or not. There's not another option just waiting around the turn whereby the team becomes a contender simply because the franchise wants it to happen. Reality happens. For two, maybe you missed most of the last 50 years where this Lions franchise was a joke, and mediocrity is actually a huge step up. For three, who is the franchise? Is it the fans, who have no actual effect on the performance of the players? Is it the front office or players, who you can't just replace with superstars whenever you feel like it? Is it the ownership, that has overseen decades of losing?

Changing your mind might make an individual happier about a result, but it doesn't actually change the result when the individual does not have input in the first place.

Look at ownership, they extend Millen for no reason. Schwartz and Stafford are rewarded after one season. Even Bobby Ross was kept around too long. All these people are examples of mediocrity or just flat out bad. However they were/are given more and more time to try and figure it out. Because hey, it could possibly be the best we have to offer.

It's not bad luck that keeps this franchise from accomplishing anything from significant. When player after player fails, coach after coach fails, and GM after GM fails, it trickles up to the top.

Ford's are good owners in the sense they are willing to spend the money, I believe they do care and they do want to win. However when you are unable to do this in a league built towards allowing quick turnarounds, there is an issue. So maybe they don't accept mediocrity but they sure do reward it.

And this is exactly my point. The owners aren't smart enough to put smart people in charge, and there is a direct trickle down to the roster. That's not an acceptance of mediocrity, that's a reality that the people in charge are not capable of better. Are the fans "accepting mediocrity" by allowing an owner who makes poor personnel decisions run the team? Yes, but the fans have no say in the matter. Is the owner "accepting mediocrity" with managers and coaches, or does he just not have the ability to evaluate better himself?

My point is that the only people who truly accept mediocrity (or worse) are the fans. They are the only ones who have an alternative (become fans of a different team or none at all). But they are also the most powerless, in that nothing they say or do (barring the idea of a massive, concerted boycott) has any real bearing on what the team will do to improve on the field. Ford isn't actively hiring bad managers and coaches, he just doesn't know any better. The managers and coaches aren't actively drafting bad players or adopting bad schemes, they just aren't good enough to do differently.

The state of the franchise has little, if nothing, to do with accepting mediocrity. Because again, the only participants that do that are the fans. And the fans are often very vocal about opposition to mediocrity, but they have no real voice in the decisions.

Mayhew as your gm is accepting worse than mediocrity.

Reiff could be optioned still. We have until May 2nd. Depends on the draft. 7 million would be the number I believe. A long term deal would have a lower cap number than that in 2016, even with a 7 million per average. Mayhew values Reiff but if a LT falls then Reiff is an RT or guard. But Reiff is still a good LT. He's a good LT, LG and RT.

Levy they should start working soon but still have lots of time. Plus Levy is pretty humble unlike Suh. Or maybe they wait to see what he looks like without Suh/Fairley. Since you are all assuming our back 7 will go back to mediocre now without Suh. Doesn't hurt to wait either.

Slay has two years left. Ansah two years plus a 5th year option. No worries with either of those guys.

We found out Suh is 19 per greedy instead of 17 per. Ngata and Walker and good defense still. Worked out just fine.

He watched all the NO tape. You know....all those games they lost cause they had no defense. Ya, that tape. You know....the tape they had no defense yet Walker was STILL a back up. Yup...that guy is gonna be the difference on this team.

Walker played well. The tape doesn't lie. He had a ton of snaps too.
