Stafford ranked as 11th most accurate passer

The problem with jones is he's a stretch the field guy in a dink and dunk offense. He'll get his opportunities to make the big play. But i don't think stafford finds him consistently enough for a "monster year." Atleast i haven't seen that version of our offense in the last 3 years.

I would suspect, at least I hope, that we will see the offense open up a bit this year. 2nd year under JBC......more time to learn the offense. Both Stafford and Cooter are getting a better feel for the play calling and I would hope we are a bit more aggressive downfield in 2016.

You're right Hughes, we CANNOT just dink and dunk our way to a good/great offense. Hopefully, JBC knows we will have to open it up some. I think Jones is more than just a stretch the field guy.......at the very least he's a much better catch and run WR that CJ was last year. This is a catch and run offense and we have the right personel to succeed in it with Tate and Riddick. Hopefully, Jones adds the dimension of the long ball we were looking for last year and, if healthy, we finally start to use our field stretching TE (Ebron) to do just that.......find holes in the seams. Absolutely stupid to have him running 4 yard outs as much as he does. ANY TE can do that.

What has absolutely baffled me the last couple of drafts and FA periods is the Lions inability to find a burner to stretch the field. Corey Fuller isn't the answer. I thought Jeff Janis in the 7th last year would have been a no fucking brainer......what do I know, though!

Tate can stretch the field too. He did when he played calvins position when he was hurt. Also in seattle..ebron can stretch the field. And jones. Plenty of deep options

That's the difficulty, Matt doesn't or maybe he can't throw down field. Last couple years he's been so bad, not even close to when someone is down field. I think that's why Cooter decided the dink and dunk was the way to go. Best hope is 8-10 yard pass in the open so they can run forever.

Stafford has a great deep ball. He needs time to throw it

He throws a good deep ball. One of best in league. Calvin lost a step

I don't believe any of that. Stafford has one of the best arms in NFL history and helped make CJ one of the best intermediate targets to ever play the game. Is he Brady/Rodgers accurate? No. But he throws a very good intermediate (10-19 yards) ball. He has been little more than average on deep throws in the last 2-3 years......but has the talent to be better if given time.

His deep ball is average at best right now.......but he is far from an 8-10 yard QB.

Like you said average on deep balls. Weather he's far from a 8-10 yard guy means little when they go 8-10 yards. I'm not making that up.. He's more a 5-8 yard guy.

And just to be clear he can be accurate past 10 yards but he has habits of throwing some bad balls past 10 yards. Better than some but worse than others. For example 10+ 8 TD, 7 INT.

And I guess in the NFL long passes are consider 16-20 yards or more? But when I say long passes, I'm talking much longer.

I don't care about accuracy stats, their stupid if you can't run the ball. When you can't run the ball the QB is going to take more chances. Running the ball effectively solves many issues for both sides of the ball. If we run the ball well, we should make the playoffs.

If lions are average or slightly below average they can do much more on offense. First 9 games were terrible last year running

Who do you consider a good deep ball passer mitch

No idea. In-fact they might all be as bad. But I do remember him going deep and connecting to CJ and others in his earlier years. And their OL wasn't any better then..

Partly offensive scheme and part Matt is less accurate .. But the offensive scheme might have changed because it's not Matt's strong suit..

I just want our QB to hit an open guy 40 yards downfield..

If they run the ball effectively, this will open up the deep ball. The entire O-line has to step up their game.
