Stafford

heres an example:

what would most people say is the strength of our team? Offense right?

Most people would say that minnesotas offense sucks? right?

Did you know Minnesota only scored 4 fewer points than us last year? With all their qb problems....starting freeman for a couple games, cassel, ponder etc.....they finished the year with 4 fewer points than us.

So just to recap....the strength of our team....offense....in one of the worst divisions in football....scores 4 more points than Minnesota.

Now am I being negative....or am I just telling you a realistic version of what happened?

Last year the Lions were an embarrassing disappointment that no amount of "true touchdowns" could cover up. Many people would be hard pressed to make a valid argument against that.

Or im portraying a picture of reality which comes across as negative cause the lions haven't done anything good since the Model T came out?

The model T came out in 1908, the lions haven't done much since 1957 or since leave it to beaver first aired

Ha

did you watch at all last year? Stafford loses games in the 4th quarter duh...were lucky we pulled him when we did! So youre saying our depth sucks? Oh weird....who woulda thunk it.

Have fun bein a lil B

I did watch all last year. I think we have a bad secondary and I'm worried about our DE situation. I think our depth at DE and corner is bad.

I also think we have a very good offense THIS year that should score a lot of points. And before you reference us vs. the Vikings again, that was last year and we've significantly changed things on offense since then. I think even you can agree that Tate is better than Durham and Ebron should be better than Pettigrew. It remains to be seen if our defense will be good enough to allow us to win.

Vs. the Raiders..

We all want him to do well but a few drives against the Raigers isn't all Sun and roses times..

I understand that it was against the Raiders. But I'd sure want to see him play very well against the Raiders than play poorly against them. Is it wrong for me to point out that Stafford played very well and our starters were beating them by 2 touchdowns when the subs came in?

Just because I made that statement, it has no bearing on how the season is going to go. I'm merely stating that they played well and that it is encouraging to see that, no matter who the opponent.

Staffords problem isn't never playing well, his issue is playing well for a season.

We saw it in the preseason game, with correct mechanics and footwork he makes good throws. When he doesn't do that he is inaccurate. look at the incompletion to Bush, simple throw, threw off of back foot and threw it high and poor.

Stafford has talent, he was the #1 pick for a reason, he just needs to grow up and play an entire season at a high level. No more backyard toss it around, just having fun, mentality. That worked in HS and College, not here with the big boys.

I think coaching staff has shown they will hold their players accountable with the handling of fairley. They worked with Stafford on his mechanics and I think it shows. Finally some coaches that aren't just cheerleaders for the players but hold them accountable.

I hope they don't plan on moving Stafford to 2nd string.

agreed. tate and ebron should help the offense if Stafford has improved.

DE and corner are pretty darn important positions in todays game.....I share the same reservations on the D as you do.

Fair enough. But as Brewer said we know Stafford can have great games but can he be consistently great? I want him to be great late in games and late into the season.

The ceiling for Stafford is as high as it is for any qb in the NFL. He has the skills and weapons to have a season that could surpass what Manning did last year. But it requires him to stay patient. His problem has always been forcing things when the offense hits a lull instead of being patient and taking whats there. People are not giving Stafford enough credit for the job he has done over the past few years. This team had a serious problem in terms of talent at multiple offensive positions and he was relying on Megatron pretty much solely. Last year they grabbed some pieces and this year they grabbed a few more. Stafford was forced to have a million attempts to guys that struggle getting open and making the grabs. IF they can get some guys open and get some balls caught then he can have a 40 td, 12 int and 5000 yard season. But if its like last year where drops get turned into ints and he is forced keep forcing throws into tight windows then we will keep getting disappointing results.

Surpass what Peyton did? Yeah, I don't think so..you do realize what Peyton did, eh?

Yeah, that's not happening. No shot. Let's see if Stafford can crack the 90 passer rating before we put his ceiling at that level.

Stafford has a solid preseason game, and automatically he's destined for 60 tds and 6000 yards passing, lol. I want to see Stafford throw less than 15 ints, that's my Stafford goal for the season. Less bad throws, and no late season meltdown/collapse. I would be ecstatic if Staffords numbers were somewhere around 4500 yards, 35-40 tds, 10-13 ints, with less fumbles than last year

Little FYI. Ever since Stafford has gotten over his injury bug and has played 3 full 16 game seasons in a row, he's had a comp % of 61.5, thrown for 90 TDS (avg 30 a year), avg over 4600 yrds a year. The kid has it in him to be elite. It's the picks that have killed him. Add the fact that he's had pure garbage to throw to his whole career minus CJ. Great coaching and his willingness to absorb it all is key.
