The Official 2014 Draft Thread

NFL network Sapp saying SOL.... SAME OLD LIONS about the Ebron pick. Made me laugh.

Doesn't have the same speed as Davis. Davis ran 4.38.

And ripped off 33 reps. Davis was a true freak.
Seems like a mixed bag of reviews. Our ESPN reporter gave it a thumbs down as well if you want to add to the review mix. I have no doubt the guy can do well, if that makes it a good pick count me on the positive side. I think we could get the same production out of a TE in the second or later. One final thing you guys are calling this a BPA pick, but it's being touted and is a need pick, if the coaches though we needed an athletic TE it's a need. Paying Pettidrop is a waste, you don't need to pay a blocker 4 mil per.

this...I loved the idea of ebron...but then our dumbass gm resigned Pettigrew and I thought there was no way in hell hed be that dumb to get ebron at 10 after that.

This. And I'll add to that. Isn't Micheal Williams supposed to be a superior blocker to Pettigrew? Why not just let Petti walk, draft Ebron and have Williams be your run blocking specialist?

It just makes the Pettigrew signing seem dumb.

However, the depth at TE is phenomenal!

Any word on how we are going to use him. Is he going to be a TE in the sense jimmy Graham is? Meaning lining up as a WR 2 out of 3 times.

Next three picks I would use on defense. After that draft based on a combo of value and need.

Think of how Michigan uses Devin Funchess. He'll be split out, on the line or at h back on any given play. A Swiss Army knife for the team.

I would be surprised if he ever lined up on the line.

GB just has to put haha on him and ebron will be invisible. Great pick packers...

This could be true.

But when they do that they will have to bracket Calvin with the other safety, CB and LB. And when they do that Tate will have one on one coverage on the outside. And Bush will run wild underneath. Defense would have been great (and probably a better way to go), but please don't act like Ebron sucks at football. That's just ridiculous.

Ebron is a matchup nightmare for teams. It's always good to add one of those.

And to the people who want Mike Williams only at blocking TE, makes it pretty obvious we are running the ball if we do that. With Pettigrew, you can run and pass if he is in the game. Both Pettigrew and Ebron will see the proper amount of snaps for their pay. We needed both and we got both now. Plus Fauria as the redzone guy. Perfect complements.

We'll see how the careers of Fuller, Dennard, Dix and Donald pan out compared to Ebron. Hating on it now is silly because you don't know. Even if you end being right down the road that any of those guys are better, you truly don't really know, just happened to be right.

If we hit on our next few picks, this becomes a non-issue. Kind of annoyed reporters keep saying the lions took a few minutes to turn in their card and somehow they listened to trade offers in that time. Sorry, the video shows it was less than 20 seconds.

What video was that?

I was stuck watching the ESPN feed. The vikings pick was in, that's when the lions clock starts, they went to commercial, they came back and announced the vikings pick, then about 15 seconds after that the pick was in. So they were on the clock the entire commercial break and while the commish was announcing the pick. To me it looked like they were on the clock for about five minutes.

It was on the big screen behind the guys at nfln.

Edit: when they showed that shot, the lions logo was up. Said the pick was in and the nfln guys had just said the lions had already picked and there was a backlog of teams. 939 was on the clock

"We did not get much activity from the time that we got on the clock," Mayhew said Thursday night. "So we waited a few more minutes, and then we made the pick."

I ffeel like Lewan was the only player people were looking at trading up for. If they really wante him they would have called pretty quick. Do I wish we would have taken the full 10 minutes to field any trade offers...yes. But I doubt there was much there
