114. Detroit Lions: Da?Shawn Hand, DE, Alabama
Detroit traded up to land this pick and they get a ton of upside. Hand had all of the hype coming into Tuscaloosa, but never lived up to it. Now he?ll try to realize that potential in the Motor City.
Grade: B

153. Detroit Lions: Tyrell Crosby, OT, Oregon
Great pick. He?s a Round 3 talent and the Lions need offensive line depth. This is just a fantastic move for them.
Grade: A

A CLOSER LOOK: Tackle Tyrell Crosby.

Awards: Numerous in his career. It started as a freshman with the Ducks Pancake Award for putting the most defenders on the ground.
More important was the Morris Trophy as the Pac-12 offensive lineman of the year in 2017, as voted on by the conference’s opposing defensive linemen.
“Bottom line: This is a high-value pick for the Lions. Crosby was rated as high as a second-round prospect.”

Multiple seasons of elite grades at both right and left tackle.
Thick, strong tackle who owns a power advantage against almost every defensive lineman he faced.
Run blocks with a mean streak. When his hand placement is on point he buries defensive linemen.

ANALYSIS: Likely becoming the Lions’ new swing tackle, Crosby played both right and left tackle at Oregon. He also has the ability to move inside to guard if needed. This is a player many analysts had rated much higher than the fifth round, so Detroit finds themselves another gem here.

Crosby can come in Day One and compete for the starting left guard spot, but regardless adds quality depth to the depth chart who could play a more significant role in time. His addition was important considering the injuries suffered by this offensive line in Detroit last season.

Suddenly, the Lions offensive line is stocked with talent with rookies like Crosby and Ragnow being added to a room with veterans Taylor Decker, T.J. Lang, Ricky Wagner and Graham Glasgow.

His pass blocking efficiency was, well, perfect in 2017. He did not allow a single quarterback hit or sack. Oregon’s quarterbacks are an athletic bunch, so don’t get too excited, but that is still an impressive feat. Crosby has a tendency to lean on his opponent and may have difficulty with veteran speed rushers who use his own momentum against him with secondary inside moves.

Crosby hits like a truck, his punch is incredible, and that may serve him well if the team intends to forego an attempt to keep him outside. The fallback position for Crosby is at guard. His main mechanical difficulty moving inside is that his feet tend to go dead when he impacts an opponent. If he overcomes that deficiency, he is a valuable asset.

This Shaq Griffin story is fantastic. I usually don't like the forced drama/story lines during the draft but this seems genuine as can be. Hope he succeeds.

Hughes how pissed are you going to be if they picked up Bo Scarbrough in the 7th

I'm just saying of you're going to trade up for a position i see little value in in the first place (several teams are successful with late round rbs) then he better be a fucking difference maker. We trade up for the likes of best, leshore and hate to break it to you....kerryon Johnson is not a difference maker. Michel was the only guy in the draft worth trading up for. I think he makes more of an impact than barkley does.

Nick Bawden RB San Diego St.
6'2" 245

The Lions took fullback Nick Bawden from San Diego State. Was the lead blocker for Rashaad Penny and Donnel Pumphrey the last two years. Went to SDSU as a quarterback, made one start as a true freshman. Lost the job.
Was asked to switch positions. Wanted to go to linebacker. Coaches said no. Asked him to be a fullback instead.

Lmao

If Blount has 700 and AA has 500.... then trading up for kerryon Johnson was the dumbest thing i ever seen.

Blount and Abdullah are both FA at the end of the year....why would planning for the future be ?the dumbest thing you?ve ever seen?.

You?re in rare hypocritical mode during the draft aren?t you.....it?s like Hughes? period.

He's pissed because he's not getting his way. He's the kid that takes his ball and goes home after his buddy just owned him on the court lol.
