The official 2018 nfl draft thread

15th in QB rating allowed. With Ansah (most of year playing hurt and missed 2 games) and Hyder (all year) and Ngata (11 game) injuries

Now Ansah and Hyder healthy. Big additions there. Williams replaces Ngata which is better than Spence/Ledbetter. Hand added. Kennard added. Patricia scheme added

Shead added, Tavon Wilson back healthy(but more runs support) and more safety depth with Walker to help Killebrew

We won't be shredded.

Run game does help the defense to control the clock and avoid shredding too.

Cam, Dak, Cousins twice, Trubisky twice, McCown/Darnold, (rookie) McCarron/Josh Allen (rookie), Bradford/Rosen(rookie), Tannehill (off injury) don't really scare anybody. That is 10 weak QBs

Russell Wilson, Garropolo and Goff. Meh. Wilson doesn't have an oline and 49ers really don't have any weapons.

Rodgers and Brady shred everybody typically but we get 2 of those 3 games at home.

Let me ask you a question. Those rookie QB were picked because their current QB stink. Wouldn't that make harder for us? I know I rather face a McCarron then say an unknown. 15, so they're average. I don't see us improving.

Possible. But who says the guy we picked is better.. Highest rated C doesn't mean higher rated player. Our rushing stunk but the offense was not the biggest problem it was defense. QB's shredding us.

With your method we keep going 9-7.

And your method is drafting a DLineman that was graded lower than Ragnow. Fucking brilliant lol.

Who said he was graded higher? As far I've read he was not the 20th rated player.

I like ragnow...alot. but by no means was that a ton of value. Yes cinci was interested in him... and yes if they got him it would have been a reach for need just like it was for us. And Daniels and Hernandez were still on the board...both higher "rated." Quinn clearly went after his guy.

I love kerryon Johnson. Good value where he was picked... Trading up killed the value.

All good if the run game improves. Questionable moves if were still last in rushing.

Value was set incorrectly by the "draft experts"

The GMs, not just Quinn, Bengals, Pats, Vikings said Ragnow was a first rounder. Every single GM said Landry was a second rounder as well (and there were injury concerns with Landry).

Landry seems to be rush OLB only. Ragnow has more positional value. Can play center or guard. Quinn loves that. Ragnow helps rushing attack and pass protection. Landry didn't seem to be a run defender only a pass rusher.

Ragnow has more value if you think about it. Especially with Linval Joseph, Sheldon Richardson, Kenny Clark, Mo Wilkerson, Mike Daniels, Akiem Hicks and Eddie Goldman in this division. Not to mention blitzing Erik Kendricks and Roquan Smith/Trevathan.

The fucking Lions said Ragnow was higher lol. That's all you should worry about.
You do know how the draft works, right? Teams have a board and that board is probably 400+ players deep. All teams are not the same but they go by BPA, NEED, WANT etc etc. The Lions chose to strengthen their inconsistent OLine. They're sick of not being able to run the football. They're also helping out their franchise QB by getting him some help. Who the fuck are you to say that they should have went DL?

Landry dropped to round 2 and two OLBs went before him. Hurst dropped forever. Raashan Evans or Taven Bryan. These were the options. Taven Bryan went later in Round 1 to Jax. Evans went at 22.

I could see Ragnow being rated ahead of Evans and Taven Bryan.

It was a weak DE and rush LB class. Everyone knew this.

Round 2 Landry and Darius Leonard from South Carolina State went before Lions back and Uchenne Nwosue went Round 2 before the Lions pick too from USC.

Kemok Turay and Tyquan Lewis were options in Round 2 per the board or Lorenzo Carter. Give me Kerryon over them.

Round 3 Justin Jones DT, Oren Burks, Harrison Phillips or head case Arden Key over safety Tracy Walker.

I don't know if Key is the magic answer. We'll see how Walker works out. Patrica loves 3 safety schemes and Walker can cover better than Wilson/Killebrew it seems.

What do you expect them to say?

The problem is there are so many volatile people who that if you don't agree or think this is the best draft ever.. we'll all wrong or being negative. Who am i to say we should have went DL? Who are you to say we should have went C?

I suppose I can't say Hand in the 4th and trading a 3rd was too much? Am I not allowed to have that opinion?

I have read that Walker's cover skills are off the charts and him playing at a smaller school means jackshit. If you can football, you belong. You might even see this kid move to CB. He's that athletic....

Quinn and Patricia were jumping around like school girls when they picked Walker. Very good cover skills and can play in the box too. I've seen plenty on this board complain about safety depth. Now when it gets addressed, it gets bitched about. Quin, Wilson, Walker, Killebrew, Diggs. Got to love that safety depth.

I would say wait and see on the missing 3rd rounder. Typically a future 3rd round is worth a 4th round pick this year. That is how it works for the trade.

Also wait and see because Quinn could get that pick back. He could trade down next year and pick up a 3rd. When we traded up for Kerryon everyone is all upset we lost a 4th round pick. Guess what, we added a fourth round pick in this draft still. Quinn knows how to work the board.

I never said they should have drafted a Center lol. I know why they did tho. Wanna guess why? Wanna guess why they brought in Blount, drafted Ragnow, drafted a RB??? Because they fucking suck at running the football!!!! That's why!!! They NEED to run the football. Running the football actually helps your defense in a huge way. You wouldn't know that because (a) you don't know football and (b) you don't watch this team. Remember? Your words...

Have an opinion, man lol. I'm just here to educate you.
You don't like the way they acquired Hand? I feel ya. Hand is a wildcard IMO. They obviously seen something in the kid they like. He has gigantic potential and maybe the Lions can tap into it. It either blows up in their faces or Quinn looks like a genius and this kid becomes special. Time will tell...

No one is arguing we don't need to run the ball better. There's definitely no arguing he went all in and threw the entire draft at improving the run game. He obviously thought that needed to be fixed over defensive pressure. Which might be true... but we used like 14 different starting oline combinations last year due to injury. He already addressed that by putting allot of our free agent money into guard and center.

To draft another center, trade up for a rb without addressing getting a pass rusher seemed a little much for me... that's all. Agree, pretend you don't agree...i don't really care. The bottom line is the pass rush didn't improve, the projected secondary is the same....so the run offense better fucking be stellar lol.

No, they didn't put "a lot of money" into Guard and Center yhis yr. Wiggins and Johnson cost peanuts.
And i'm not pretending anything. I agree trading a pick for an underachieving DT was a bit odd but I agree going up and getting a RB like KJ. I don't care if he was the the 7th RB off the board. We got a potential workhorse RB in that kid. He does everything welĺ. A combo of him and Blount should be dangerous.
And the passrush has improved. Hyder is back and Ansah is healthy. Kennard has ability to get pressure, Zettel should be better as well. They have quick young LBs that can get after it too.
They also brought in a playmaker in Walker. He might surprise. Brought in Snead, let Hayden walk. Wilson is back. Diggs is switching positions. No, this is not the same secondary. Different schemes, different coaches. Your negativity blinds you. It's not just all about the draft. There's a bigger picture here but you choose to ignore it...
