Tigers 2022 Off Season for FA signings, trades, tender, nontender, Rule 5, to 2023

SATURDAY SURVEY.
Totally Tigers

Going into the off-season, the Detroit Tigers have made a lot of significant changes to their organization. After bringing on Ryan Garko and A. J. Hinch back in 2021, this year saw the firing of Al Avila and the ascension of PoBO Scott Harris.

Harris has continued to address the issues with Player Development as well as scouting and drafting. He is currently working on programs to address the lack of offensive skills while promising significant changes to both the organization and the roster.

Many of the familiar faces who have been with the team for decades are now gone, replaced by top talent from some of MLB?s best teams.

And Harris has started to address the roster via releases, non-tenders and waiver wire signings just 2 weeks out from the end of the World Series.
We have been told to expect big changes.

Given all of this, and the fact that it is still very early in the off-season, how excited are you about the anticipated changes that are expected to happen between now and February?

How excited are you about the Tigers' off-season?

1. Very excited.

2. Maybe a little more interested.

3. Yawn.

I have to vote 2. There is no way I am very excited, and just due to the new leadership, you can't vote Yawn.

How many of you return a day or two later to check the final results of our weekly polls?

We really have an excellent cross-section of fans and historically, this group of readers almost always tend to be spot on about what they see happening with the Tigers. In part, those who come to this site are educated about the team much more so than the average fan. I am hoping that those with offices at Comerica read what is being said and use it to gauge the pulse of the fans, not to mention incorporating this factor into their decision-making.

As background, each poll is carefully constructed, offering the full spectrum of options as well as avoiding the possibility of leading readers to a specific answer. And they are also tamper-proof. Unlike the All-Star voting, it?s 1 reader, 1 vote. The blog platform kicks out any additional votes submitted by a reader who has already voted once.

Let?s now take the time to review all of the major polls completed since Scott Harris was hired. How often were you in the majority?

Here are a list of over 20 of the questions, followed by the winning percentage. In a few cases, the runners up are also listed.

Former Detroit Tiger Jeimer Candelario signed a 1-year contract with the Nats. $5 mill guaranteed. He was making $5.8 mill with the Tigers and expected to make app. $7 mill with the Tigers via arbitration if they had tendered him.

MESSY MEDIA MESSAGES.
Totally Tigers

We?ve always known that there is a huge difference between the sports writers of the major local daily papers in Detroit and everyone else. So much so that if you really wanted to know the truth about what was happening with the Tigers, you had to seek out the articles of independent or national journalists.

The assumption has always been that the local press needed to preserve their ability to access the clubhouse so they essentially wrote puff pieces that wouldn?t melt butter in any Tiger official?s mouth. We?ve also read the stories about how the Tigers have influenced the editors at both papers about who covers their team.

Never mind that sports writers in other major cities have free rein with their topics and criticisms. Most don?t pull punches. For example, I live in a region where the MLB team?s stars, manager and owner have regularly been put under the microscope and chastised. Even when they were in the running to be the World Series champs.

But those specific Detroit writers are notorious for controlling what is revealed and preventing criticism from falling on team officials. It?s not lost on most of us that if the media had held fire to the feet of certain people like Al Avila, we wouldn?t have had to suffer for 8 long years.

Don?t just put the blame for why this team has been so bad for so long solely on ownership and the Front Office. The likely media suspects deserve a whole heapin? helping of guilt. Co-conspirators. Accomplices.

Much more to this story.....

Well the Honeymoon is over.

Our new GM just signed Mathew Boyd to a one year contract of $10 Million!! What in the actual fuck?? This guy hasn't been healthy in 3 years.

Okay now that I have calmed down a bit;

The Detroit Tigers are bringing back Matthew Boyd on a 1-year $10 mill deal. PoBO Scott Harris signed him last year for the Giants but he went on to the Mariners where he had an impressive first season back.

Chris Fetter was not here back then. And this off-season, the Tigers have added multiple experts in the fields of biomechanics and kinesiology who should significantly help Boyd.

The new Asst. Pitching Coach, Robin Lund, is a professor and leading expert in kinesiology. He also coached his college team and sent 8 of his own pitchers to the majors.
