Tigers 2023-2024 Offseason: Trades, Free Agents, Call ups, Rule 5, tender, non-tender

I was once blocked by Lynn Henning because I disagreed with his take that Comerica Park was too big. The thing is, we know each other personally. We've had conversations face to face. So I'm a little bit surprised that he went to that extreme because we disagreed that the ballpark should be smaller than it was.

I'm surprised by Lynn. There is another Detnews writer who has blocked a few fans. Oh McCoskey.
I am already blocked by Buster Olney and Ken Rosenfeld and the guy at espn if he is still there who always knocked the Tigers farm system even when good.

We were PM?ing each other over this, so it wasn?t like I was calling him out on Twitter. Plenty of others were doing that for sport, and that was a whole different sideshow. I liked the big field and I liked that it gave the Tigers outs. Lynn thought Cabrera was being cheated by the 420 CF fence. I countered with the 440-foot CF fence in Tiger Stadium (and it might have been actually 420) and asked if he thought hitters like Greenberg, Colavito, Kuenn, Horton, Kaline, Cash, Freehan, Gibson, Whitaker, Trammell, Deer, Tettleton, Fielder, Nokes, Fryman (i think I threw Eddie Brinkman in there) felt ?cheated? by that. To this point, Lynn was getting irritated with me about my defense of the 420 CF wall and I was getting annoyed with him, too. Still, I thought it was a healthy discussion. Until he blocked me.

I follow him on X and I give him a lot of leeway when I respond. He wrote one of the best pieces I?ve ever read on his article about Titus Young.

I bet I?d get blocked rather swiftly by this ilk if I disagreed with them.

I'm betting Keith Law. That guy was super anti detroit for some reason.

FIVE FOR FRIDAY.
Totally Tigers

Yesterday, I used the MLB team leader boards to show exactly where the Tigers currently sit compared to the other 29 organizations.

The influx of top prospects who are still largely untested, combined with the weak AL Central can often skew perception and make real progress appear to be closer than it actually is.

The bottom line is that Detroit lost 6 more games than they won in MLB?s worst division last year. And that they hover in the lower third of offense, average in defense and with mixed results in pitching.

Today, let?s tackle the most pressing issues Scott Harris and Co. have to address this year. Concerns that are currently or potentially slowing this team down as they try to advance to a reasonably competitive stage.

Here are my top 5 priorities for the Tigers to solve this season???

Not sure if any of these moves gets me real excited.

same.

this wasn't encouraging: "The 28-year-old Flaherty is coming off his most productive season in four years, logging 144.1 innings with a 4.99 ERA and 148 strikeouts"

Oh well, when you dumpster dive, this is what you get.

and for 14 Million.

The behind the scenes stuff gets me wondering why the went for him, like maybe the others wanted multi year deals of at least 3 or 4 years? This guy is either going to catch fire from Fetter and company or they will flip him at the trade deadline and go with a couple of kids.
If this bargain basement shopping goes on beyond 2025 my patience will have left.

Jack Flaherty sounds like one of those forgettable no-name pitchers who put up mediocre stats for the Tigers in the 90s. John Doherty. That guy.

I'm hoping this is a move to set up another move. Lots of starting pitching depth now maybe we can move some for a legit bat.

I don't see the starting pitching depth you are talking about.

Lots of starting pitching means depth. They don't have to be good but they do have depth. Flaherty had a nice year in 2021.. Just short. Not worth the 14m probably but it's only one year. Not like they don't have the money. And maybe he can be Lorenzon 2.0.

Skubal, Kenta, Flaherty, Manning, Mize, Olson, Gibson-Long, Wentz, Faedo. That's just on the 40 man and not considering guys in the upper minors that will make debuts this year.

Skubal
Madea
Flaherty
Mize
Olsen
Manning

Then maybe
Flores
Madden

I don't see a lot of "trade bait" for a bat in that list. I would say that is maybe enough to get through a season, given the fact that starting pitchers almost always get hurt.

You might be able to get a bat for Wentz and Faedo. When I say a bat, I mean an actual baseball bat. :hitter:
