Tigers 2023-2024 Offseason: Trades, Free Agents, Call ups, Rule 5, tender, non-tender

Skubal
Madea
Flaherty
Mize
Olsen
Manning

Then maybe
Flores
Madden

I don't see a lot of "trade bait" for a bat in that list. I would say that is maybe enough to get through a season, given the fact that starting pitchers almost always get hurt.

Gibson-Long, Hurter and Montero are also likely pitching in the bigs this year at some point.

I'm betting they're both likely in the bullpen because of the depth you fail to see.

I guess I just look at the "depth" differently. I see a bunch of question marks and turds. I don't see anything that could bring a "legit bat" unless you move Skubal

SATURDAY SURVEY.
Totally Tigers

Over the past couple of days, we?ve taken a look at where the Tigers stand compared to other teams. We also identified 5 of team?s biggest concerns that need to be addressed for the 2024 season.

If you didn?t catch those blogs ? or need a refresher ? here they are:

Based upon these 2 blogs, last year?s results and what you?ve seen since the Tigers changed their Front Office, when do you believe Detroit will truly become competitive and reach the October playoffs?

Here are the qualifiers that define this playoff milestone and should be included in your decision:

? Must have greater than a .500 record

? Must have enough talent to win at least 1 playoff game and not be swept.

? Must have enough wins to rank in the top half of MLB.

Simply winning the weak AL Central is not enough of a qualifier.

Given all of these markers, the information shared in the above 2 blogs ? and assuming that the Tigers are building a viable product ? in what year do you believe they will be legitimate contenders for a playoff spot?

In what year will the Tigers make the playoffs?

1. 2024

2. 2025

3. 2026

4. 2027 or beyond

Tiger fans shouldn't spend a lot of time worrying over all the minor league pitcher signings. This is not an indication that the team is being "cheap."
There are multiple reasons for their signings.

Scott Harris has said you can never have enough pitching. These signings are mostly for depth considering that their MLB roster has used 17-19 different starting pitchers every year. And their young starters are going to have their innings limited which will require said depth.

There would be hope that 1 or 2 of the minor league signings may develop well. But the moves also address the numerous bullpen days the Tigers had last year. Harris inherited a system that had very little pitching depth.
