Tigers 2023-2024 Offseason: Trades, Free Agents, Call ups, Rule 5, tender, non-tender

Tigers keep Freddy Pacheco on minor-league contract as reliever continues recovering from Tommy John surgery.

Understand 2 things.
1. This is no small thing..Pacheco has huge leverage potential and DET has zero arms anything like him..
2. Evan Petzold even on a deal this small..worked his ass off to find out if this deal was happening.

this is from another article where she was doing what she typically does, kissing Harris' ass:

Harris has ushered in a new culture to the organization and signs players who want to be in Detroit. Not just for the paycheck.

Look at how he turned down Andrew Chafin?s desire to return after he opted out. Chafin couldn?t get a better contract and asked to come back. Harris said ?no.?

Bud, she knows a lot more about what is going on behind the scenes than you do or anyone else here.
They told him No when he wanted more the previous year, and then wanted to come back.
Now for next year, he asked again and they took him for Less $$ and they can send him off after 2024.

How Tigers plan to help reliever Andrew Chafin, whose walk rate went from 7.8% in 2022 to 12.5% in 2023, locate pitches again.

Scott Harris: "We trust Andrew to be able to command the baseball a little bit better when he's back in a Tigers uniform."

Chafin's walk rate has spiked before..2016, 2018, 2020 so its not unusual..its gone from 11+% back to 8% or less every time..it was 7.8% last time he threw for Fetter/Nieves..a regression is almost a guarantee..when the command is good..Chafin's is very very good.

she probably does know more than a lot of us. My point is she is saying more than one thing to make Harris look better to the reader.

In one article she says that he wanted to come back and they said no. Then in the current article she says the 2 sides couldn't agree on a new salary.

I read each TT article that you post because a lot of it is interesting. I just can't stand how she beats a dead horse (AA) and constantly kisses Harris' ass.

Chafin wanted to come back before the 2023 season, after he didn't get the pot of gold he was looking for, he asked and That's why Harris said no. After he left Detroit, Harris told the media what was true, they couldn't come to an agreement for a contract.
With this new contract Chafin came back but on the Tigers and Harris' terms.

She beats the dead horse aka AA because he set the rebuild back several years.
They had an analytics dept in name only. He was the worst trader and signer of FA's we have had since Smith.

She praises Harris because he is building the Tigers from the Ground Up! The way a smart team does.

She's just a blogger right?

She has connections to the Tigers front office people. She is not talking out of her backside.

You know, this has gone on for at least a couple of years.

You like to sit here and cast your opinions when you have the opportunity to
actually ask the person you disparage. Grow a pair and make a comment in the comments section of Totally Tigers. I'm done here.

not sure if you are talking to me or Mitch (or both). I used to post in the TT blog. I can assure you I was civil. I did voice my opinion even if it didn't go along with what is popular. They don't like that there, and I now whenever I post, it doesn't show up. So much for free speech.

As much as we all really hated E Rod, his performance last year was great. They still need to add another "innings eating" arm for the rotation. Although I don't see Canha as a difference maker, he's an upgrade over Cabrera.

IMO, for the Tigers to get above .500, they need to add another decent starter, get a full season of Greene, have Tork hit like he did in the second 1/2 for the entire season, a full season of Carpenter, and one rookie to "surprise".

Let's hope!

I asked because I didn't know. I'll remember next time.

Overall, I like Holly's approach. But I will not accept the idea that we're supposed to be patient about the Tigers being competitive. Look at AZ and TX. And there are dozens of others so-called exceptions where teams vault from the bottom of the standings to the top in a season or two. It didn't take 7 years. That she's claiming in her latest blog that even 2025 is too early to expect the Tigers to be competitive I think is mildly pandering.

I am surprised they did that, and sorry they did that to you. I never saw your opinion in the comments sections. Just like the Detroit sports media on twitter. I hear some writers block people.
Well, carry on.

I was once blocked by Lynn Henning because I disagreed with his take that Comerica Park was too big. The thing is, we know each other personally. We've had conversations face to face. So I'm a little bit surprised that he went to that extreme because we disagreed that the ballpark should be smaller than it was.

Maybe they blocked me because most of the time when I posted something, it was when I disagreed. I tend to voice my opinion when it is different. I guess the way I look at it, why just post something that parrots the opinion of the article? Even here, if I agree with something, I just give a thumbs up.

The thing is, I do like the blog for the most part. I still read it every day, because I am a die hard Tiger fan (the only professional team I really care about).
