Tigers 2023-2024 Offseason: Trades, Free Agents, Call ups, Rule 5, tender, non-tender

Congrats and thank you KC for all these wonderful post and great info.. Here's to 3,000,000 and 3,000,000 more to come..

Thanks Mitch. When I started this thread, I wondered if it would get anyone to read about our Tigers. Now I am amazed and humbled by how many views and fans come to read daily. As long as my health holds I will continue to do this daily labor of love.

Detroit Tigers scouts sue, allege age discrimination amid analytics push by team.
Detnews

fuck this!

It isn't because they are old, it's because they aren't keeping up with the times.

"Even if defendant did not specifically terminate plaintiffs due to their age, defendants? stated desire to hire scouts that were more adept with technology was based on an age stereotype and had a disparate impact on older scouts, including plaintiffs," the lawyer wrote.

SATURDAY SURVEY.
Totally Tigers

Several days ago, a national survey ranked all 30 starting shortstops. Tiger fans will not be surprised to find that Javier Baez ranked in the bottom 3. There were 6 categories and the bottom classification was ?trash? ? just 1 level under ?below average.?

We know about Baez?s struggles at the plate and his comments about being unable to see fastballs. Defensively, he remains a plus defender, but just barely. In his first year with the Tigers, he put up a -4 DRS. In 2023, it was +2 DRS.

But earlier in his career, he was often a double-digit plus defender. One year, he put up +31 DRS.

We know that the Tigers tried to sign Carlos Correa but he held out for a larger contract. He, too, had problems finding a new home for 2 years in a row due to significant health concerns. Eventually, he signed a 6-year/$200 mill contract that averages $33+ mill/year with 1 year reaching $37 mill.

In the national survey, Correa ranks as ?good?, the third best category.

Javy Baez has 4 years remaining on his contract and the Tigers still owe him $98 mill. The Tigers are paying him more than double what he was making as a Cub. He was signed by former GM Al Avila.

As you look at his record, both his offensive and defensive stats have been trending downward since 2020. He joined the Tigers in 2022.

Most agree that this was a bad signing. But what was the driving force behind it?

Which factor was most responsible for the Tigers signing Javy Baez?

Which factor was most responsible for the signing of Javier Baez?

1. Incompetent Front Office.

2. Inability to develop shortstops in the farm system.

3. Limited choice in players wanting to come to Detroit.

I voted #3.

Solace for me on Baez is the fact 25m isn't a ton of money anymore. I hold out hope he has a productive year but I don't worry about his suckiness anymore. Hopefully his defense doesn't decline further..

on a positive note, he can't possibly get any worse offensively. He has hit rock bottom...only way he can go is up

KICKING OFF THE NEW YEAR.
Totally Tigers

It?s the start of the New Year and what better way to kick things off than to envision what we want the Tigers? 2024 season to look like.

Your assignment is simple. As Curly (Jack Palance) said in City Slickers, we?re asking for ?One thing. Just one thing.?

We want you to complete the following sentence. Feel free to add 3 additional lines to explain your choice should you wish.Your answer must be based on the 2024 Tigers.

We?re not asking for the obvious.Don?t tell us that you want to see more wins.?Responses like that will get you put in the penalty room and forced to watch an endless loop of Brad Ausmus? post-game comments as manager.

?The one thing I?m most looking forward to watching this year will be?..?

I still have to say the young kids. The roster that Harris has put together doesn't really excite me. I suppose Tork, Greene, Keith, & Jung.
