Tigers 2023-2024 Offseason: Trades, Free Agents, Call ups, Rule 5, tender, non-tender

Approximately $40 mill will be coming off the books, however arbitration and guaranteed salary increases will further diminish that number by 1/4th to 1/3rd.

What should the Tigers do about their payroll for the 2024 season?

1. Add $25 million or less to the payroll.

2. Add up to $50 million.

3. Add more than $50 million to payroll.

VOTE

My math is a little different than hers.

Miggy $22M $30-8 for buyout
ERod $14
Boyd $10
Schoop $7.5
Lorenzen $5
Cisnero $2

That's about $60M. Add Meadows and it is about $65M. They traded for the OF for $11 so they are down to about $54

I think they should spend about 1/2 - 3/4 of that on two starting pitchers. They would go into the season with a lower payroll than last year and should have a better team.

Scott Harris said it's "a little early" to forecast what the Mark Canha trade means for fellow outfielders Akil Baddoo (left-handed hitter) and Matt Vierling (right-handed hitter who also plays third base).

"We have a lot of time left in the offseason to reshape our team."

Lost in Eduardo Rodriguez opting out..is the mostrous gaffe of planning Scott Harris made in how he navigated and executed leverage in the EROD trade deadline deal..instead of two very good..would be top 10 in their system prospects..he now has..not a damn thing.

NPB?s Orix Buffaloes Approve Posting Of Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

The market for Yamamoto is expected to be among the most competitive of the offseason, with the Giants, Mets, and Cardinals among the reported suitors in addition to the Phillies, Cubs, Yankees, Red Sox, Rangers, Dodgers, Tigers, and Diamondbacks, all of whom he?s been publicly connected to on some level or other throughout his final season before moving stateside.

Now THIS would be a bold move!

With the max money on IFA the same for many teams the player just gets to choose. No way he picks Detroit. We get the 2nd or 3rd tier players. Not top IFA.

The Tigers are expected to pick up catcher Carson Kelly's $3.5 million club option for the 2024 season, per sources. @CodyStavenhagen was first on the news.

Mark Canha?s .364 OBP ranks 23rd among 155 players with at least 2,000 plate appearance from 2018-23.
He ranks ahead of Jos? Ram?rez, J.D. Martinez, Max Muncy, Corey Seager, Bryan Reynolds, Matt Olson, Trea Turner, Nolan Arenado, Rafael Devers and Carlos Correa, among others.

Mark Canha reinvented his approach years ago. Now, #Tigers think he can help young players
"As a young player, you want to impress people, do damage and show that you can hit. ? I was getting myself out too many times. I made a decision to swing less."

The Tigers have hired Tyler Anderson as a pitching coach in the minor leagues. He previously worked as Eastern Kentucky's pitching coach, and also has coaching experience with Baseball Australia, the Phillies and the Angels.
