Tigers 2024 Spring Training beginning 2 - 14

Keston Hiura loved facing the Pirates as a Brewer, hitting 13 of his 50 HR off Pittsburgh pitching. Figures that his first HR in a Tigers uniform is off a Bucco, an oppo-field launch against Colin Holderman. Tigers take 6-4 lead in 4th with ball flying at Joker Marchant Stadium.

Keston Hiura 3-run shot at 104 mph to right-center. Now 6-4 Tigers through four innings.

Tigers win 8-5. Manning got knocked around but the velo, stuff, and whiffs are still up. Wentz was fine. Good days for Hiura, Kelly, Keith, Bigbie at the plate. Another terrible day for Baez/Baddoo.

Detroit Tigers ace needs a big year in 2024 to cement his role in rotation.
The Detroit Tigers need a big year out of Tarik Skubal in 2024. If he is able to piece together some impressive performances, he will be able to cement his role as the team's ace.

DEEPER DISCUSSIONS.
Totally Tigers

The Detroit Tigers have more players vying for an outfield position than they have openings. There are 4 players who are expected to make the roster with another 3 also in the hunt. They are:
LEFT FIELD
Akil Baddoo (LHH)
Justice Bigbie (RHH)
Mark Canha (RHH)

CENTER FIELD
Parker Meadows (LHH)

RIGHT FIELD
Kerry Carpenter LHH
Riley Greene LHH

Additionally, Justyn-Henry Malloy has been moved to the OF to play one of the corner positions.
Matt Vierling is moving to the infield but is expected to occasionally fill in at RF.
The Tigers are expected to carry 5 outfielders not including Vierling. Another player could conceivably make the roster as a utility/bench player.

That leaves the team with a decision to make on who earns a roster spot. They will consider both defensive metrics as well as the much-needed offensive skills.
If it were up to you, which of these 3 players would you select to make the roster?
Today’s blog addresses this question and allows readers to share their thoughts in more detail. And hopefully, to actively engage with others by responding to their posts and creating back-and-forth discussion threads. The more the merrier!

For this one blog only, you’ve got 6 sentences max to share your thoughts. Of course, you can also respond to other readers.
TT will supply the ammunition. One thought-provoking question. Several options provided. One hard choice to be selected. One vote.

I voted Baddoo. I think Bigbie and Malloy still need to develop and play every day in the minors.

They will probably start with Baddoo and see if he hits. I would not be surprised to see each of them at various times of the year.

I agree. There will be injuries at some point. I would love for Bigbie or Malloy to play so well that they force their way onto the major league club.

having the opportunity to watch my first spring training game on TV. 9 up and 9 down for the Tigers. Some guy pitching that I have never heard of.

Tigers right-handed reliever Jason Foley was scheduled to pitch in today's game against the Mets, but he didn't travel to Port St. Lucie. Manager A.J. Hinch said Foley has "mid-camp pitching fatigue," which is why he didn't pitch.
