Tigers aren't getting Choo, okay already?

Whatever happened to Dombrowski's "10 major league ready arms" waiting in the minors?

That was made in 2011. Smyly and Jacob Turner were two of the arms. Then you have Andy Oliver, Casey Crosby, Duane Below, Adam Wilk, Chance Ruffin and Charlie Furbush. There is 8. Somebody else needs to come up with the other 2.

Was there a player to be named?

Ray = 12th Round pick that walks 4 a game in the minors. (future LOOGY)

Krol = 7th Round pick who is a LOOGY

I was being sarcastic but it is Ray. From most of what I have read he is the "centerpiece" of this deal. Most say he projects to be a #3 at best but most likely a #4.

well...they each have 2 arms so that is 16!!!

There is almost no way Ray becomes a #3 or #4 with those high walk rates, mostly to righthanded hitters. Hence why he projects to be a LOOGY.

That 8 is a horrible list. Our minor league system sucks.

Yes it does. Despite this, I probably wouldnt mind if we gave up our 1st round pick. We'd probably waste it on a fucking college reliever again or something anyways.

I guess 21 year old pitchers never get better command??? Max Scherzer walked about 4 per 9 up to the age of 23. I'm not saying he is going to be an ace or even a good #2 but to say a 21 year old kid "almost no way" becomes a #3 or #4??? Come on!!

You're right Tom. All the historical statistical data is wrong and we need to re-write history according to Tom.

Scherzer was in the mid 4.00 range as near as 4 years ago. He is now in the mid 2.00 range.

SO/BB Ratios

Ray = 2.30

Scherzer = 3.14

Big difference. Add the SO rate where Ray was barely 9.0 SO/G and Scherzer was about 12.0 SO/G.

I don't know how you can say that. Robbie Ray has never even had a chance to prove himself. With your Logic Gio Gonzalez would have never gotten a chance to pitch in the big leagues. Ray has about the same minor league BB/9 as Gio WHO HAS BECOME A #1 starter!!!

DD has stated he wants Robbie Ray to come up and fill in for any of the 1-5 starters on the tigers if they go down to injury. I think he is mostly worried about Sanchez. Ray is a hell of a lot better than that turd Jose Alvarez as a spot start #6 starter type of pitcher.

What makes you think DD is worried about Sanchez?

Sanchez went on the DL last year. I think he may have been the only starter to go on the DL. He will probably be ok, its just nice to have something better than Sanchez as a #6

So, when 5% of the minor league pitchers have a high walk rate and make it in the majors, you want to use them as the rule?

what?

Are you saying Ray will be better than Sanchez?

Nope I just think we need to actually see Ray fail rather than project it. Gio had a 6.1 BB/9 per 9 his first year in the big leagues.

DD sees something in him, I respect him so much as a GM I am not going against him.

I can understand that, but how is it you have already projected him to be better than Alverez? Maybe we should actually see before we decide that too?

that would be as dumb as saying a 21 year old pitcher that has a somewhat high walk rate won't make it as a MLB pitcher.
