THE FANS HAVE SPOKEN.
Totally Tigers

How many of you return a day or two later to check the final results of our weekly polls?

We really have an excellent cross-section of fans and historically, this group of readers almost always tend to be spot on about what they see happening with the Tigers. I am hoping that those with offices at Comerica read what the fans are saying and consider it when they are discussing strategy.

As background, each poll is carefully constructed, offering the full spectrum of options as well as avoiding the possibility of leading readers to a specific answer. And they are also tamper-proof. Unlike the All-Star voting, it?s 1 reader, 1 vote. The blog platform kicks out any additional votes submitted by a reader who has already voted once.

Let?s now take the time to review all of the major polls completed in March. What you may find most interesting is the often-seen difference between how the overall population of fans feel compared to the published reader comments. Sometimes, the most vocal of fans are in the minority. Some of you may be surprised at what you see.

What is also fun to discover is how far apart ? or how close ? fans are in voting.

As you peruse the questions, it may also be interesting to see how often you were in the majority ? or in the minority. This blog has always been about exploring baseball more deeply and being receptive to different theories and opinions. Where one stands in each of these polls is a great way to expand one?s thinking about the game.

As you read through these, would you now change your mind about how you voted? Let us know!

Also let us know which one of these questions surprised you the most.

Here are the questions, with the winner and percentage listed at the top in bold.

DEEPER DISCUSSIONS.
Totally Tigers

This is the year, according to PoBO Scott Harris, to play the young kids. And we?re seeing a couple of them look promising.

There?s Ryan Kreidler who is considered to be a stellar defender. He plays 2B, 3B and SS. Unfortunately, he?s not much of a hitter.

Then there is Kerry Carpenter who mashed a lot of HRs in the minors and is starting to warm up at the plate for the Tigers. He has offensive power but is considered to be a work in progress defensively.

The Tigers have issues up the middle and potentially at the hot corner. Their outfield is one of the stronger areas defensively.

The team continues to struggle offensively.

Which player do you feel is more important to the team? Who can contribute more?

It?s a tough choice but you can pick only one of them.

Today?s blog addresses this dilemma and allows readers to share their thoughts in more detail. And hopefully, to actively engage with others by responding to their posts and creating back-and-forth discussion threads. The more the merrier!

For this one blog only, you?ve got 6 sentences max to share your thoughts. Of course, you can respond to as many other readers as you want.

TT will supply the ammunition. One thought-provoking question. Several options provided. One hard choice to be selected. One vote.

Ready?

Which player do you feel is more essential to the team?

1. Kerry Carpenter

2. Ryan Kreidler

the Baez signing was bad. AJ should get some of the blame too. He had to have signed off on a signing of this magnitude.
Why would the manager need to sign off on that. He might have a say but that's it. It's all GM and Owner.

If the Tigers are having AJ sit down with their "first choice" for 3 hours before they try to sign him...AJ has a say in what is going on with free agents.

Maybe the term "sign off" is too much. But I would think any decision on a big free agent signing would have to go through the manager too since he is the one that has to deal with him every day

"We want winners here," Hinch said (of the Baez signing) Nov. 22 (2021) at Comerica Park. "We want to win. ... There's a ton of interest in coming to Detroit by a variety of players, and that's because people are aware that our trajectory is going in the right direction."

That didn't age well.

He doesn't have to pay him. The former GM is gone probably partly because of this.

I'm not sure what calculated risks are working. Most of the guys that Harris brought in aren't any good. The guys that are playing well are the guys that were already on the roster.

Malloy is the only one I was excited about. If 1 of the other guys end up contributing that's a bonus.

FIVE FOR FRIDAY.

Detroit Tigers? PoBO Scott Harris has hinted in a variety of ways that this year?s roster may be churning at a regular pace as players try to meet the goals of producing offensively and defensively. Not to mention pitchers who have to produce solid innings.

We?ve already seen a few changes, mostly due to injuries.

But who is the most likely of the current 26-man roster to find themselves back in Toledo ? or worse? Who has the most pressure placed upon them to produce?

I?ve got my top 5 list.

In one of his first official trades, PoBO Scott Harris traded Kody Clemens and closer Gregory Soto to the Phillies in exchange for Nick Maton, Donny Sands and Matt Vierling.

Here are their stats (through Thursday):

Kody Clemens: .063 BA and .180 OPS

Gregory Soto: 4.32 ERA and 1.080 WHIP

?

Nick Maton: .151 BA and .621 OPS. Maton leads the team in HRs and RBIs. Playing 3B primarily with some 2B. Excellent defense, speed.

Donny Sands: Catching in Toledo

Matt Vierling: .231BA and .619 OPS. Playing CF and RF. Excellent defense and range.

How would you grade the trade?

How would you grade the trade between the Tigers and the Phillies?

1. Good to excellent

2. Average to below-average

3. Poor

MONDAY MUSINGS.
Totally Tigers

Throughout the week, there are so many smaller stories hitting the media. They may be bite-size, but often they are just as important as the headline-grabbing news. Sometimes, even more.

And that?s what brings me to today. A way to bring them out in the open and invite conversation about some of these subjects.

And that?s the plan for Mondays. Keeping track of these mighty little bits that hit my radar throughout the week and sharing them with you today because I know one or more will also resonate with you. So, let?s kick off this week?s musings?

Tigers fans shouldn't throw stones at Max. The Tigers have a manager that won a WS because they cheated.
