Tigers FO thread, Scott Harris Pres. of Baseball Ops,Tigers Hire Jeff Greenberg GM

Why are we still blaming AA? Its like blaming Million for 15 years.

Avila left the team in shambles from the lowest minor league team to Toledo. The coaches and managers had nothing to do with analytics and were given jobs by being friends and yes men. Nearly the entire minor leagues were gutted and had new managers and coaches to train these new minor leaguers. They also had to see for themselves which players were worthy of staying and those who had to go. He had no business sense in trades most always, and the drafts of those years speak for themselves.
Now Harris is either afraid to sign players we would like them to sign, or is told not to. Either way this giving the kids a chance to play by not blocking them is not working. So he is going to be next for condemnation if they keep doing this with draft picks and signing the Gio's and Canha's of MLB, and signing pitchers on show me 1 year contracts and they are gone. I'm very tired of this ownership and most fans might forget the father didn't do a thing to help the team for a dozen or so years before he put money into signing players.
I have very little interest in the team I have rooted for nearly 70 years next month.

You inherited a team that was horrible at Defense, drawing walks, Offense, speed and the team 2 years AFTER you took over is now just as bad or worse..and you now have a Cy Young candidate and an emerging 4 WAR OF..

The emergence of Skubal and Greene as great players..wish the team they played for wasn't an embarassment, yet again, always remember the fish stinks..from the head down.

Games scoring 1 or 0 runs in 2024: White Sox - 25 Marlins - 23 Tigers - 23 Rockies - 19
5 Tied at 17...
Orioles - 8 Guardians - 7 Phillies - 5.
The 2003 Tigers (43-119, one of the worst teams in the history of the game) scored 1 or 0 runs 22 times.

since their 5-0 start..DET is has the 6th worst record in baseball.

Not that it matters but DET follows up their series in LA with a trip to MIN..then CIN CLE and LAD..they will then fold the franchise who will be 16 games under .500 by the ASB.

You have a major league team..who considers themselves serious about winning and Zach McKinstry is playing SS for you everyday.

Can anyone explain to me why Akil Baddoo hitting .122 for the month..is starting again .122 They need to make room for those kids he talks about.

Update from Tigers: Jace Jung was evaluated by a hand specialist Tuesday. He has been cleared for baseball activities and is beginning a return-to-play program in Lakeland.

Jackson Jobe is now listed as the Saturday night starter for the Whitecaps in Lansing.

Max Clark walked and stole 2nd base, but he appeared to tweak something in his right leg and had to leave the game.

FIVE FOR FRIDAY.
Totally Tigers

Yesterday’s blog brought up the concerns the Tigers are facing about how to handle Spencer Torkelson’s future with the team. I also wrote that Scott Harris still has a laundry list of players he needs to address and solve.
Given this, let’s continue the discussion and identify Harris’ top 5 roster concerns that must be decided before the 2025 season.

I don't think the Tork problem is a big one. Like she said yesterday, 1B is the easiest position to fill.

Baez is a huge problem

Maeda is another huge problem, one he created by signing him.

Mize isn't a problem either. He certainly isn't a top of the rotation pitcher, but he can be a serviceable #5

Back to the rotation...another problem that he created by signing Maeda to a 2 year contract.

I think that 3B is still a problem. You also have Parker Meadows to address. Is he going to be able to hit at the major league level?

Meadows, imo, is and was always, just a stop gap until Clark is ready. You hope Jung can learn to play 3rd.. Its new to him (less than 50 games at 3B) so too early to write him off yet. This was a transition year for Mize's after two years off - I expect / hope he'll be better in '25. Baez isn't a huge problem, $25 mill is not a lot in the grand scheme of things. It's the fact we don't have anyone that can play a decent SS and hit even a little that we can promote.

Fortunately Maeda salary/cap hit is just $10 mill next season.

I'm worried about Carp though - the injury he has can go a number of ways. I think Tork should get just one more chance, and that's in ST. He shouldn't be given a spot he should have to earn it. And keep Baddoo away from the Major Leagues.

Clark is probably 2 -3 years away.

IMO, that's a long stop gap. Plus, do they even know if Clark is going to be successful at the ML level? He's not even out of A ball yet.
No but his potential is better than Meadows. Meadows is already behind Perez.

Scott Harris’ bare minimum trade deadline inspired no confidence in Tigers fans.
Ultimately, we hoped for more in return at this trade deadline.
MCBTB

Tigers somehow made the worst possible non-Tarik Skubal trade at deadline.

Scott Harris might not be cut out to lead the Tigers.
Scott Harris has had a couple of years to prove his worth. So far, it has been a major struggle. Uneventful offseasons and botched trade deadlines have fans in an uproar.

OUT OF THEIR DEPTH.

lol...another article where she is still blaming this mess on AA. Harris had all off season to address some of the depth issues that they have. He did sign Jack for only one year, but he was good enough to get traded. He signed K Maeda for 2 years, but he's so shitty that they won't allow him to start. She says that they don't have much depth at AAA Toledo, well, why didn't Harris address that in the off season as well? It's time to stop putting blame on AA and put it on Harris.

REALITY BITES.

Building a winning MLB roster..takes guts and vision..and it takes 4 resources, trades, FA, draft, and develop fringes. Harris has demonstrated he can generate 2 WAR or better players from which of these 4 aspects..
24 months you have..Tyler Holton, a versatile backend reliever.
