Tigers Hot Stove 2012

Man lot of interesting stuff.. It will be interesting to see which way DD goes.

I think this has got to be about the most appealing option for a hitter right now. Upton is young, locked up (unlike Quentin), and is a pretty good defender in a position of need. If we could get him without giving up Castellanos, that'd be ideal. Not sure what he'd cost, but maybe something like Turner, Below, and Boesch could get the ball rolling there.

Since they are looking for a 3B I would bet that it would start with Castellanos.

Too bad we didn't still have Inge. The deal could have started with him

Started and ended.

DD - "We'll give you Inge."

Towers - "Are you kidding me? He's a first ballot HOF player who can flick his wrists and hit homeruns at will. Consider it done, sir, and I'll be throwing in my eldest daughter as a thank you for your generosity."

I never in a million years....thought I would read the words "Too bad we didn't still have Inge" on a Tigers message board.

It ranks right up with "Too bad we don't still have Neifi Perez", and "Too bad we don't still have Jose Mesa".

It was a joke Son.

Anybody of REAL value long term will come at a price of Turner, Casty or both. You have to think though, if you can get a guy like Upton, aren't you hoping that Casty can be a player like that someday. Do you see him ever being better than that? Maybe you do, maybe you don't. Just saying, sometimes "prospect" makes you think untradeable. You have to take into consideration what you ever expect them to become.

BTW I didn't read, we are talking about Justin not BJ right?

The one problem that could happen and I normally don't mind trading any prospect for talent, and a few have mentioned it, can the Tigers afford another big contract to go along with JV, Miguel and Prince?

Upton's last two years are over 14m.

Good point..thats not something any of us can answer..guess we'll find out. I can't afford to employ the bat boy.

The payroll is a serious concern. Jackson will need a raise and possibly Avila, Boesch, and Fister. Though Delmon and Peralta should go they make lots of money.

As long as Ilitch is in charge and without a ring, I don't think there will be a hard payroll ceiling. If they can help him get his ring and the only barrier is money, he'll write the check.

If Avila and BB continue to play like they have been BB won't be on the team and Avila won't get much of a raise! The Tigers are going to need to replace Peralta....I don't think they have any good SS in the minors so they will likely have to sign a FA which should cost about the same as JP.

Don't forget about Valverde...his salary should be gone next year (hopefully)

Haven't seen anything in a while but I read somewhere earlier that Jed Lowrie was a potential target for us at 2b. I would think we could get him without paying too steep a price.

Machado is like Iorg, good field can't hit,
Possibly best SS prospect is at West Michigan Eugenio Suarez.

The Tigers are prioritizing offense over starting pitching, according to an executive that has spoken to the team. The Tigers need second base help and could also explore trades for corner outfielders, starting pitchers and relievers.

Good. If they trade Castellanos for somebody like Garza I'll be pissed. I really just hope they hold on to Nick. I know a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, but it's just more satisfying when they can promote from within. Haven't had a chance to root for a home grown star outside of Granderson since I was a kid. Who was the next best position player before him, Higginson? Then Fryman? Probably not coincidentally, those were my favorite players of their era. I guess living in the Toledo area plays a roll in that too.

I for one would like to see Castellanos make it through our system to the parent club... But oh the World series trophy seems so elusive even for a team with Prince, Miguel, and Verlander...

Exactly, even if we trade him away for a big name, we have a very narrow shot at it this year.

Not saying we can't win it all, but odds are stacked pretty heavily against us.

Also so many people whine and complain about our lack of a farm system, but don't realize all the guys we end up trading away.
