As you would expect, left-handed batters are hitting just .180 with 35 strikeouts in 113 plate appearances off C.J. Wilson. However, right-handed hitters aren’t much better, batting just .209 (67-for-321) off him. So while Quintin Berry gets the expected night off in favor of Ryan Raburn, who’s 4-for-7 off Wilson (including postseason), loading up on righties doesn’t guarantee success. Jhonny Peralta is just 2-for-19 with eight strikeouts against Wilson, for instance. Delmon Young was just 3-for-15 against Wilson before homering twice off him in last year’s ALCS.
from Jason Beck

Detroit Tigers' Ryan Raburn batting second against left-hander; Gerald Laird, Danny Worth in lineup.
Jim Leyland is loading his lineup with right-handed hitters for the game Wednesday night against left-hander C.J. Wilson and the Los Angeles Angels.
Ryan Raburn is starting in left field and batting second, while Gerald Laird and Danny Worth are also in the starting lineup.
Raburn is 4-for-7 with a double, two walks and one strikeout in his career against Wilson. Current Tigers players are hitting a combined .296 (24-for-81) with three home runs against Wilson, including at-bats in the postseason.
Wilson is 9-5 with a 2.43 ERA in his first season with the Angels after pitching seven seasons for the Texas Rangers.
Doug Fister (3-6, 4.39 ERA) will start for the Tigers. He is 1-3 with a 3.95 ERA in six career starts against the Angels.

Nothing like having a .169 hitter in the 2 hole.... I know Leyland is stacking righties in the lineup but Raburn doesnt deserve the 2 spot.

I'll take the better hitters vs the RH hitters. I'd play Berry and switch hitting Sanchez. Worth is worthless.

Raburn got no business batting second does smokes know we're in a pennant race.? although I see he does have the best BA against Wilson of all on the team albeit only 3 AB's

he's still a worse hitter than berry overall, and berry doesnt have a stone glove.

also, berry is hitting lefties slightly better than boesch is this year (small sample sizes for both, and theyre both still pretty bad). ill take slightly better on offense and way better on defense even given berry's questionable D over boesch being god-awful at both any day.

BB has been red hot....and historicaly he hits lefties pretty good.

which until this year was based on an unsustainable, astronomical BABIP vs lefties which has come back to earth. and i dont trust his hot streak. he's had a few good games in the last few weeks interspersed with his normal awful ones, and he's still terrible at defense. Berry is the better player right now and the better choice to play even against wilson.

Boesch has been smoking. You play him, and keep playing him until he slows down which is inevitable. Berry should play over Raburn though, LHP or not.

More Leyland: "Jacob Turner will start Sunday, end of story."
Leyland also said Smyly is not ready to resume pitching. Does not know when will be.

End of story??? When is somebody going to punch this fn goof in the mouth?? Seriously, Leyland, grow the fuck up when asked a question.

Leyland is going to ruin this kid...good for the Tigers, those fn idiots.

What is he supposed to say? "Turner is going to start...he sucks....but he's all we have" I'm sure he has been asked the same question by 10 different meatball reporters and he has given them the same answer.

I never said he had to say "he sucks", but he doesn't need to act like a fn child when asked a question. he does the same schpeel for every player he doesn't want to talk about. He did it for Inge, he did it for Raburn, he'll do it for Turner.

As for those meatball reporters...it's their job, buddy, get over it.

and Leyland doesn't like Tigers fans who are vicious, second guessing is ok / good, but not the extreme anger displayed towards him, (by most knowledgeable Tigers fans).
Sorry Jim, we didn't mean to hurt your feeling with vicious attacks on why you are such a f'n putz, couldn't be your lineups,

Does Ilitch have a clue what's going on with the daily runnings of the team, DD and Avila Sr. need to look in the mirror, get some players that know how to play two way ball, and really look at the coaching staff and make the necessary changes. Just because they have three future hof'ers, and a star in the making AJ, the rest of this team is poorly constructed, from the positional players that are hacks with the bat and gloves of stone, to the cement shoes range of many in the outfield and infield.

Same act every year, KC. I'm sick of it...wish the Tigers brass were as well.

The second 1/2 of this post is the reason for the pathetic line-ups. You are 100% right about how this team is put together. The Prince signing was the icing on the cake for me....they have no plan.
