Tigers vs. angels Game Thread July 18

Same act every year, KC. I'm sick of it...wish the Tigers brass were as well.

I feel that's true, and it is difficult to accept, look at the angels and rangers, and also the yankees, and probably another team or two, they all have Power AND Speed And better defensive range at key positions like second and short, what I wouldn't give to see a couple of players like Trammell and Whitaker in the middle, and who were the last two in leftfield and rightfield that could also field as well as they hit. This 4 and 5 out inning craptastic defense and aftermath of more pitches thrown to get 3 outs, is pissing the crap out of me,

At least next year you get one OF who can field his ass off so you have AJ, New Guy and Berry/Dirks with BB as a bench sub. DY gone. Get a SS, as much as I like Peralta, we need some defense there. A 2B that can play superb defense and hit some. Our defense improves 300%.

One starting pitcher and a good good setup guy who can get ya 100+ innings. The team gets big time better.

The second 1/2 of this post is the reason for the pathetic line-ups. You are 100% right about how this team is put together. The Prince signing was the icing on the cake for me....they have no plan.

yeah and truthfully, when it happened, I was confused mainly because Cabrera had turned himself into a good/average first baseman, and Fielder wasn't, it made more sense to spend if he had 23 million a year to spend for the next 8/9/10 years to sign another superstar or get 2 lesser star players at positions of need, hello 2B.

This where I start to think that after nearly 60 years ( since 1954) of being a Tigers fan, I am only going to live to see 2 World Champions 68 and 84. The way this team is put together, they would only be able to win if the teams they went up against went into successive slumps, the other teams just look to be put together with a bit more thought.

My dad used to say that the redsox owner for many years Tom Yawkey, and the old angels owner as well Gene Autry, the old singing cowboy, signed and traded for players, star players, without thinking if the players fit. I think Ilitch is of the same style.

I was born in '68 so I really don't remember that year! I was lucky enough to be able to go to game 5 of the '84 WS. I'd like to think I will be able to see another title in the next 30 years! What scares me is Mr I is going all in and probably with no regard for the future. It may be fine for the next few years (while he is still alive) but I'm afraid that we may have a LONG spell of bad baseball after he dies.

I don't have a problem with the Prince signing and it wasn't his cost that kept them from getting other players. I think DD was fine with DY, BB, Inge and Raburn. He thought they were enough. Otherwise why give DY 6.5m?

What RP pitchers 100+ innings no a days?

And Benoit is just fine as a setup man.

As much as I agree about Peralta, I feel as if the Tigers will pick up his option.

The previous year 1967, was one of the most incredible 4 team pennant races in the old one league no division set up, Tigers, twins, whitesox, redsox, neck and neck most of the year,
Kaline struck out against sam mcdowell went back to the dugout and slammed his bat into the rack it bounced out and broke his hand or finger, he missed 6 weeks, I always thought that cost them the pennant, missing it on the last day of the year with those double headers vs the angels, iirc that was also a year that McLain f'd up before his 31 win following year.
Tigers all said they knew, just knew they had the best team in 67 and were on a mission from the beginning of ST.
But yeah, that could happen, Ilitch is 83 or some where near and at that age every day is a gift. Do his adult kids do any functional baseball activities? Does the family plan on keeping the team after he goes? or will they sell to another Detroit Billionaire?

More Leyland: "Jacob Turner will start Sunday, end of story."
Leyland also said Smyly is not ready to resume pitching. Does not know when will be.

Holy Jumpin Jack Jimmy Smokes that just fucking stupid! Just give the White Sox a victory on Sunday, WTF man this displeases me. Hell id' rather see Downs or Below start go 3/4 then Marte for 2-3 if this is all we got. what crap. Does Jim know we need to beat Chicago.

Pitchers just don't get a chance and if they're good, lower pitches per inning they can go more.

I agree with Benoit but you need more setup guys. I'm not really high on Coke and Dotel a year older.

"Position of need hello 2B"
I rest my case.

I agree with 2B, our worst hitting position but we need some outfield defense. Who wouldn't want an Angels defense?

Jackson in center, Berry in left is not bad IMO. Dirks could be in right when he returns. Which when he does that could put push come to shove for someone.

I guess I would like to add someone with experience. Years of being good. As much as I love what Berry has done and Dirks was having a nice year before his injury, I'm not sure we can count on that continuing next season.

What's the deal with Fisters Hat? does he never get that cleaned for any special reason?

f'ck CA has more HR"s in this series in our park then we have all month I think. I yi yi
That might be all they need we couldn't do anything with Keith Richards how the hell are we going to do anything with Wilson

Bats did a good job running up Wilson's pitch count in the 1st, well cept for raburn. Wilson going to the breaking ball with 2 strikes bats need to lay off it.

i think he's exactly the same way, think of how many players we've gone out and gotten because illitch wanted the name (pudge, maggs, cabrera, fielder) and it doesnt help that DD has been using a fucking stupid team-building formula on top of that (overdraft on power arms leaving the farm system bereft of anything else except for players that strike out a ton and cant play defense or hit well, or all glove-no-bat players. its fucking stupid).

was trying to find the game on mlb extra innings, the previous game dodgers-phillies went extra innings, papsmear blew the save.

Delmon Young now has a 10-game hit streak after that RBI single,

nice changeup by Fister gets morales out in front,

I agree, what ever happened to all those relievers they drafted??
