Tigers vs. a's ALDS Game Thread 2 Oct. 7

What a great weekend in sports, Tigers won both games, MSU AND U of M won, and the Lions didn't lose!

Up 2 games to none and I think if not for Oak errors we'd have a grand total of about 3-4 runs tops for both games combined. Gotta love that.. Offense now due for a better run producer.

Not going to be easy yet still though, very tough place to play in Oak and let's not forget they did sweep Texas their recently.. No letting up!

The Yankees finished with the best home record at 51-30. Detroit, Oakland, Texas, Washington, Cincy and St. Louis all finished with a 50-31 record at home. No easy task to win there since we've had road issues all year. But I do like our chances to find a way to win 1 out of 3.

Speaking of MSU...Kirk Cousins is going to get this change with the Redskins, perhaps. RG3 with a concussion. Cousins 5/9 for 111...a 77 yrd TD pass and two INTs...

reddick doesn't like that Al Al kissed the ball when he threw the ball to prince, what a f'n whiny bitch, what about all the shit antics he and his team mates do?
reddick bitching like a high maintenance f'n broad.

with everything the relievers on their team does you'd think they'd be ok with it.

I thought it was a cool story that this team came from nowhere....I didn't realize some of them were complete tool bags.

count me on the anti reddick bandwagon

Oakland is now whining about the umps calling pitches outside strikes. they are right, but what they don't seem to realize or understand is that our hitters have had em called the same way! buncha whiny bitches.

After looking at the pitch data I'd say the A's and Tigers were about equally screwed in that area.

Both had about 7 balls called strikes.

The low strikes Fister was getting early on were in fact in the K zone.

Don Kelly's RBI a long time coming.
from espn statsandinfo

The sacrifice fly was Kelly?s first go-ahead RBI all season, his first since a go-ahead home run in Game 5 of the 2011 ALDS against the New York Yankees.
It?s the first time he?s EVER had a go-ahead RBI in the seventh inning or later.

The Tigers scored five runs on Sunday with only two RBI. That's tied for the most runs scored in a postseason game with two or fewer RBI.
The Elias Sports Bureau notes it's the most runs scored by one team in a postseason game without an RBI hit.

I have to confess. it seems to me that I have become a part time troll with twitter.

The A's are bitching about Wegner's strike zone, but pitch f/x indicates that Milone and Fister were getting the same allowances.

Moneyball was supposed to be a cheap way for assembling a team that can compile a high OBP. The A's OBP this season is 12 in the AL.

I have not read the book or seen the movie, but I though it was OPS, not OBP?

I'll have to look it up.

One thing that stands out, mentioned yesterday....the A's hitters see more pitches then any other team.

From Wikipedia:

Rigorous statistical analysis had demonstrated that on-base percentage and slugging percentage are better indicators of offensive success, and the A's became convinced that these qualities were cheaper to obtain on the open market than more historically valued qualities such as speed and contact. These observations often flew in the face of conventional baseball wisdom and the beliefs of many baseball scouts and executives.

Oakland fans are also complaining that MLB too away home field advantage with the 2 on the road 3 at home format.

Honestly, I'd have to agree. But tough shit!

Reddick complaining about "professionalism" and he chucks his bat on the grass after getting rung up by Wegner. And tossing the bat down the tunnel is the 180-degree counterpart of kissing a baseball.

also reddick showboated on Sep. 20 last play of game, shuffle + hop before catching a Cabrera fly ball, A?s 12-4 win in Detroit.

Reddick is just an asshole. I don't take anything he says or does seriously.
