Tigers vs. a's ALDS Game Thread 4 Oct. 10

Lets hope our offense shows up in the 1st few innings of the game and puts up some serious runs so we can pull JV and throw in Porcello to finish up.

I guess one can only hope lol.

Also Valverde is so fucking delusional that he thinks he made good pitches and they just hit them really, really hard. Fuck him.

You want Porcello finishing out game 7? Lol.

No, he wants Porcello finishing out Game 5. Which I'm okay with if we put up a 20 spot in the first inning.

I can't watch tomorrow's game. Why be upset for 3 hours when you can wake up in the morning, cuss at your wife and kick your dog.

Today Why ruin this day when there is tomorrow, hum, today is a test run for tomorrow. Beside the dogs are a sleep. And I got to get the wife to cook! testing.testing, testing

Leyland blew his wad early by babysitting Schwerzer and only letting him pitch 91 pitches.

Even with Verlander pitching tomorrow, I think we're going to lose. Our bullpen is fucking terrible, our offense is fucking terrible, and our defense is fucking terrible. If we do choke, you can guarantee that a number of people are gone for sure, hopefully including Leyland. His fetish with bunts likely cost us some runs today by giving up outs with none out and giving away the possibility of a big inning.

You are talking out of both sides of your mouth. On one hand you say the offense is fucking terrible (which is true) but you complain when they bunt to try and score a run. When you have a terrible line up you have to manufacture runs.

Went to bed with the score 3-1. Woke up and it was 4-3. At least I slept well. Could not shake overwhelming sense of dread that it was all going to unravel, which was why I turned it off.

I'd rather that Bugs Bunny close tonight, or just let Verlander be Verlander.

This makes no sense. Valverde would have pitched the 9th no matter what.

but after seeing Valverde didn't have it, he would have had Coke pitch to Coco Crisp (lefty on lefty, or at least turn him around). by pulling him early, Smoker had no one to replace Valverde with, if he got into trouble.

Rip my fucking heart out and stomp on it.

First time in a long time, I was actually throwing things around and cussing so loud I thought I would get a noise citation. I hurt my hand slamming it into the arm of the chair.

Must admit, as stalwart of a fan as I consider myself, the Tigers do not deserve to win this series.

Praying for offense tomorrow. Isn't that silly?

So you would let Coke hit RH to Coke with the game on the line? The same Phil Coke that RH hitters have a 1.050 OPS and hit almost .400 against him? Good idea!

Well, it's been a nice season. I hope Valverde has made a tee time for Friday morning. Piece of shit.

great idea imo.I'd take a coke over Valverde in that case, especially how he was pitching at the time. 2 runs on 3 hits and he was still in the fucking game. he should have been pulled but smoker didn't have anybody, not just Coke.

Jason Beck says Valverde's mechanics might have been from a back problem like earlier in the season,

and this from espn;
http://espn.go.com/blog/statsinfo/post/_/id/53197/athletics-make-valverde-pay-for-struggles
Athletics make Valverde pay for struggles.

Valverde entered the ninth inning of Wednesday?s game having allowed a total of one hit on the last 79 pitches he threw.

He allowed four in the span of 14 pitches in Wednesday?s loss.

Valverde gave up three hits with his fastball and one with his splitter. His fastball averaged 91.5 miles-per-hour, the second-lowest average velocity he?s had this season. All three of the hits came on fastballs thrown 92 miles-per-hour or below.

The lack of velocity is a big deal.

Opponents are hitting .381 against Valverde?s fastball when it?s thrown 92.4 miles-per-hour or slower.

They?re hitting .208 against it when he throws it 92.5 miles-per-hour or faster.

I think that tonight and the remaining post season is a close-by-committee approach: matchup baseball, ala' Dick Williams in 1972.

why not throw Porcello out there after Schwerzers 5.1 innings.

Everything went according to Hoyle until the 9th. Leyland played match-up with the risk that the Tigers would get some rest. Now he has to hope JV pitches a 2-hit shutout on 102 pitches.
