Tigers vs. athletics Game Thread Sept. 20

seriously, this trade is the one of the worst we've made in a decade. worse than jurrjens-for-renteria. we gave up 2 of our top 3 prospects for jack shit.

Lets be honest. Brantley was never going to be more than a backup for Detroit (if that, since Avila is a LH and you want a lefty righty combo), Turner was being overshadowed by Smyly and who knows how Brian Flynn is going to turn out. We traded three question marks for two guys that will at least play marginal for Detroit.

Let's be honest. You have no clue how Brantley would have done. And Turner was worth much more as a trading piece than we got.

aside from his abysmal walk rate, ive like what ive seen from Garcia so far. that probably means he'll start in the OF for us next year instead of getting the additional seasoning in the minors that he needs.

hope he gets to play daily at AA and AAA and see how he is at the all-star break,
Tigers do need corner outfielders that are experienced and two way players, trade more likely than free agent? ....unless Mr. I wants the meth head.
Dirks would make me happy as 4th outfielder, and Garcia second half '13.

Shit.

That fucked up DP and Delmons GIDP with the sacs loaded looming larger now.

Brantley is a lefty and we already have a lefty in Avila. I know the guy is having a bad year, but he is still a great catcher. I really think we will see a career .270-.275 hitter out of Avila and if resigned, Sanchez can post a 3.75 or lower ERA. Infante, while not the fleetest of foot, will probably hit around .270-.280 next year. The goal of the trade was to win right now, as in this year or next year.

Based on what? How well he's done previously in the A.L. both before and this year?

And you want us to re-sign Sanchez? You know the kinds money that's going to take?

And again, we have no idea what Brantley will do, or Avila.

I have seen NOTHING from Sanchez that tells me that he can post a sub 4.0 era in the AL.

im starting to think that avila will just never be healthy enough to consistently contribute.

mlb blackout rules are stupid. im blacked out because im within the a's region. but the a's arent broadcasting the game. derrr

A's sloppy play gives us the run back.

they figured they owed us one.

Surprisingly, Cabrera has a 10 game hitting streak, his longest of the year,

Fielder drives Miggy in from first,

Tigers lead 3 - 2,

To discredit what Infante has done in the NL would be ridiculous. Hes not a pitcher. Will he walk a lot? probably not. Will he drive in alot of runs? unless something changes, no. We have had problems at 2B for quite some time and he is definitely better than Raburn and everyone else we have.
