Tigers vs. giants 2012 World Series Game Thread 3 Oct. 27

Little things are magnified. Jackson backing off two balls he should have dove for. Fielder, Berry and Avila trying to pull outside fastballs and weakly grounding out. Berry striking out in front of Cabrera when he should have walked. THAT was the key moment in the game and the series.

Only three teams have won game four after being down 3-0.

is it Maple leafs, islanders, and Red sox?

Well as I mentioned earlier at least we have 1 decent upgrade to our offense set for next season getting VMart back to hit in the 5 hole.

That still doesn't address the basics that aren't addressed. It might pick up the energy level, but it won't create any plate discipline, range, or speed. I get the feeling that this team just doesn't drill basics like some other teams do. Just witnessing the way teams like the Giants execute those basic things well most of the time while the Tigers blow it more often than not speaks volumes. Things like Peralta's not being at the plate to coach Fielder's slide last night are the things that separate the winners from the losers at this level. Even if we make it here next year, our dh still makes no difference about half of the Time.

Oh rest assured you can expect Mr I. To make a move this offseason. Look at 2006 when we lost we traded for Miggy. He wants that World Series championship at whatever cost.

We could see Hamilton in LF next season or Soriano closing for us next season among other moves to improve the club.

The more I think about Quintin Berry, the madder I get. Swinging at pitch one and hitting into a DP with the best hitter in MLB on deck. Swinging at balls three and four a few innings later and avoid putting that same player at bat with one out and down 2-1.

What he did today earns him legendary goat status. I am pissed.

Hamilton sucks in postseasons also he would be a mistake IMO we don't need anymore of the same.

Try going to that place where your so pissed you can't get pissed anymore. it's an interesting place.

Hamilton still doesn't solve things, if the other problems aren't addressed. It takes a lot of work to create a truly balanced team through trading. There is a broader approach that is needed.

I am pretty frustrated, in that I have been working, and unable to see any of the series (other than the last half inning tonight). I have Monday night off, but am skeptical now that there will even be a game.

Well, keep in mind, with the emphasis on platooning combined with the layoff and the number of left handed pitchers we have seen, he has had almost no time at the plate in the last couple of weeks.

Does anyone else think that the scrimmages during the break should have been taken more seriously? Correct me if I am wrong, but no MLB team has ever swept a league championship and won the World Series.

That's no excuse for his mistakes in this game at the plate.

Lots of teams have, starting with the '69 Mets, when the LCS was initiated. The '70 Orioles, '79 Pirates and '84 Tigers as well. The Braves did it in '95 after the format went to seven games.

But more could be found with some research.

Berry was bad but it's not just him. Our whole OF with the exception of Ajax are bench players. None of Berry, Dirks, or Garcia are starting quality outfielders in a World Series.

Add to the fact Avila/Laird, Fielder, Cabrera, Young and Peralta [over 50% of our lineup] are incredibly slow and bad baserunners.

Because we lack speed and dynamics, we lack energy. So we go up to the plate thinking "If I can just hit a home run", instead of looking for a pitch they can drive or go opposite field, and then wind up swinging and missing at slow breaking balls, or fastballs a bat-and-half length away.

Our pitchers have their game faces on, and are busting their asses. But it's all for naught because our hitters refuse to adjust.

I'm not a fire Leyland guy, and it's hard to fire a guy who takes you to 3 ALCS and 2 WS in 7 years, turning around a perennial loser, but maybe he should be let go for the fact that he's staffed the Tigers with terrible coaches. Lamont admits to not knowing what the right call is at times, Lloyd has had the worst group of hack-at-a-ball-in-the-dirt guys I have ever seen on 1 team, and never made a single adjustment to any of them. Jeff Jones has about the same qualifications as a pitching coach, as I do as a thoracic surgeon.

2013 needs to change, no more hand me down players, no more unprepared rookies rushed up, no more sticking with a guy out of loyalty just because he's your closer, or 5th hitter, or buddies from the days in Pittsburgh.

Every Tiger from this season who is on the team in 2013 needs to play all 162 games with one goal, one single narrow point of focus: redeeming themselves from one of the biggest embarrassments in professional sports.

/end rant [for now]

I punched my cousin in the face today when he started bitching about pitching in the 3rd inning tonight. My exact quote (post punch) was something to the tune of "Bitch, are you retarded? Have you seen this lineup hit?"

Love family get togethers.

*edit* I mention this because there will still be retards calling into the radio station taking about how Leyland should've pitched the rotation differently or maybe he should've has Sherzer in the pen or blah blah blah. Fucking retards.

did I happen to mention in years past, that Jackson can't come in on balls and has a hard time judging them.
