Tigers vs. giants World Series Game Thread 4 Oct. 28

after this debacle of a sweep, i think i would have rather just missed the playoffs than be forced to watch this bullshit. every single good feeling i had from our wins over the As and Yankees got completely obliterated after the consecutive shutouts. all im left with now is seething frustration, embarrassment, and regret.

I think you can't discount that somehow this was a meant to be/magical post season by the Giants. You don't come from down 0-2 in a 5 game series and then down 3-1 to the defending champs and pretty much getting every break possible along the way.

Yup I am kicking myself for rooting for them when all along we probably matched up better with the banged up cardinals...

I feel the same damn way...This one hurts way more then 2006 and now feel like I have been stabbed in the heart... I hate caring so much for a damn sports team and city in all the sports... Luckily it will end with my generation in my family.. My son wants them to win in all but he could really care less and does not watch sports at all..We all invested way to much this year for it to end like this...1 and freaking 8 the Tigers last nine WS games....

Well, piss, shit and fuck.

See some of you on the other boards; see the rest of you next season.

The Tigers are the American League Champions; Once Upon a Time that meant something; maybe it still does; maybe not, I don't know.

I am as discouraged as anyone, but the nights (poor) sleep and some reflection has caused me to think on this WS in slightly different terms. An excerpt from a congratulatory post to Giants' fans I know and respect:

I've not seen a team execute with this degree of precision and emotion in a World Series, and it was that factor that caused the Tigers to play in perpetual retreat and reaction all four games. There are so many examples to site of this, but the one that will forever stick in my mind as the snapshot of the series is Matt Cain leaping to avoid Sandoval on Berry's bunt and run, because Cain instantly knew his responsibilities in covering third, anticipating Jackson's occupying the empty base. No matter that Cabrera homered after that, it's the mindset of the Giants that was captured in that moment. It's the brand of that baseball I celebrate, no matter who is playing it.

It would be convenient to say that the Tigers played poorly, but the reason why they underachieved was because they played a team that effectively relegated the Tigers to that low level of performance with exceptional pitching, defense, base running, situational execution, as well as timely and sometimes majestic hitting.

At least I know one thing...to always ALWAYS mute the audio on Fucks (Fox) and listen to Dan and Jim.

Sorry about the way this ended, guys. We deserved better. The city of Detroit deserved better. Made me wish we would've just lost game 5 in Oakland.

Hopefully a tweak here and there and we'll be back in it and stronger than last year. New corner outfield and healthy V-Mart...

Plus RE: byco's post. Giants played a good series, yes, but not as great of a series as everyone might think. Except for game one, they didn't exactly tear the cover off the ball. The biggest problem was the Tigers' hitting approach, which seemed to be take the pitch right down the middle, and swing at garbage 2 feet off the plate. That's not a formula for success no matter WHO you play...After a whole year of telling them NOT to swing at the first pitch, UNDER-aggressiveness wound up being their undoing. Go figure.

After this World Series,
Bovada lists Tigers as 6-1 favorites to win 2013 WS. Yankees second pick at 7-1, Giants 10-1, Rangers/Nationals/Angels 12-1.

I was on vacation until today. We were on the road for game 3 so I missed the entire game. I did see some of game 4. I am happy that I missed all of the media talk last week. Nice season by the Tigers but their significant holes in thier line up is what killed them all season long and that didn't change in the WS.

I'm glad that got cleared up. ;)
