Tigers vs Nats 5-9-2016 Game 31

You could extend that sample size back to July of last year. you'd think that a 24 year old former first round pick hitting that well over 3/4 of a season would qualify as a decent sample size.

While I do remember him flashing power in the middle of last season, I don't remember him ending that well.

Can't wait for Upton to start hitting. By that time we'll be 20 games back.

I can look at month to month stats as well. if your one off month since July is .305/.330/.432 in the last month of a season when your team is in last place, you're doing pretty well.

Too bad statistically that isn't how things work.

Historically and metrically, there is something called a "fluke" season. It is where a player hits at least 25 points higher than his career average, without significant increase in walk rate. 2000 Darin Erstad (26 yrs old) would be a great example. Regardless where Castellanos finishes the season statistically, we won't know the result unless it is repeated. If not a fluke, players also have "outliers".

You might convince me of future success if his BABIP was in normal or at least acceptable range. Or even if he had an increased walk rate. But there is no peripheral stat that suggest he will continue to maintain what he is doing. But until the season runs its course, we won't no this year's results, either way.

Well if this thing goes extras we'll likely start seeing relief pitchers hit cause there went our entire bench. lol

I didn't look at anything, for all I know he tore it up from July til now and you're absolutely right. I simply said I remembered him not ending well, if I remember wrong then I'm very, very sorry.

Brad got completley owned six ways to Sunday in that 8th inning

Not sure I've ever seen a manager have to make 3 moves to replace one spot. Pinch hit VMart for McCann, then pinch ran Romine for VMart, then had to put Salty in to catch. lol

He had a .705 OPS in Sep/Oct. Nothing special. His really good month last year (outlier) was in August in where he just killed lefties that month. For the year and throughout the year, he did not hit righthanded pitching very well, even after the break.

That hasn't been the case this year. Prior to this game, he is hitting RHP at a .450 BAVG and .541 BABIP. Even for Miguel Cabrera, these would be unsustainable.
