Tigers vs Nats 5-9-2016 Game 31

It's easy to second guess someone with the benefit of hindsight (referring to the article). I didn't have a problem with any of the moves Brad made last night. The only thing he could have done differently would have been to use Salty before V-Mart but that would have likely resulted in Dusty bringing in the Lefty with the same result. Then all of the armchair managers would have ripped Brad for leaving V-mart on the bench in the 8th with a man in scoring position.

This team still has a very shitty bench which doesn't bode well for playing in NL parks.

Sanchez hitting to leadoff the top of the 7 was the thing that got me at the time. Most managers, including probably all the NL managers take him out at that point and that was the moment to pinch hit with Victor. Sanchez was at 88 pitches and just got through a rough inning in the 6th.

I would have been fine with that as well

As Ausmus himself said the other day, the players need to perform to turn the team's recent slump around. On the other hand, Ausmus needs to put his players in the best position to succeed, and on multiple occasions tonight he failed at that.

And we get another example of this every game, does keeping a guy who strikes out 40+% in the five hole put the team in the best post in to win, I say no, more suited for 7th or 8th. But that's just my opinion and yes we all know what every body says about opinions

You act like there are better options. Who would you bat 5th...McCann, Gose, Iggy, Sanchez?

In an ideal world, McCann sits and Salty plays against a RHP. And if that happens, he becomes your #5 hitter.

I would like to see him behind the plate vs. LH starters. That said, history tells us that Upton is the better hitter. Just like Nick is very likely to come back to earth, Upton will get better.

Iggy is hacking at too much crap out of the zone move him to lead off and he'll get more selective just by being lead off IMO

Kinsler or Miggy second
Miggy or Kinsler third
Victor
JD
Nick
Auto k upton
Salty rights McCann lefts
Goose

I'm going to keep giving Brad shit until he gets it right

iggy at lead off...IMO you have it wrong right off the bat. .308 OBP this year and .333 for his career. he belongs in the 9 hole

Let's discuss this for a moment. DET as a whole, and Miggy last night, make the stupidest baserunning mistakes. What are the consequences? I don't remember a player being pulled from the game or given the next day off due to these miscues. Isn't the manager responsible for monitoring and correcting this lackadaisical play? IMO, Ausmus is responsible for the bad baserunning up until it does some overt action to correct the behavior.

So, Cabrera's miscue last night is still a reflection on Ausmus. Ausmus is not responsible for physical miscues/errors, but if left unchecked, he is responsible for the mental miscues/errors. But that is just my opinion.

As a "general" rule, I concede the notion that a manager, as long as the players haven't mailed it in, has very little effect over the course of the season. With that said, I think Ausmus is in the bottom third when rating MLB managers.

I don't think you'll ever see a Tigers manager bench Miggy for making a mental mistake on the bases. I agree that baserunning has been poor for a long time, I can't remember the last time I thought we were a good baserunning team.

If anything you might also argue that perhaps brad should have pulled miggy out after he jammed his knee a bit sliding into second, then maybe a pinch runner gets to third and it's a completely different outcome. It was still a tie game at that point and I understand that's a hard choice to make, by the end of the day however miggy does have injury proneness to those ankles and whatnot, next think ya know he's having to slide into third a couple pitches later, was he really 100% making that run and slide to third? probably not. Yeah yeah yeah if he would have pulled him and it still stayed 4-4 would we bitch that he pulled him?, maybe, maybe not.. he was hobbling around a little after that slide into second after all, it's not like it would have been totally ridiculous to pinch run him there as a precaution, I mean the last thing you want would be for him to then have to run full tilt into home or slide into home or 3rd after just jamming a knee that we assume will be fine and take the chance of making it instantly worse right.

Come to think of it you know what might be the problem?

I don't think the Tigers have won a single game since news broke Justin was getting married. That might be it! LOL

Iglesias should be leading off for the mud hens. He gets the bat knocked out of his hands.

Tigers are 0-5 since wife put out the wind sock . She said .
"Honey in put out the tiger flag now they will play better " :/
