Tigers vs Nats 5-9-2016 Game 31

Next batter tigers lose..I'm pretty sure Harper yelled f you at the home plate ump during thier walk off celebration

Can Brad be fired yet

Though I'm not a fan of Ausmus......not sure he did anything to lose this game. Was that what you meant or was it just a general statement?

General and tonight both...Tonight..mismanaged the f out of the 8th and keeps a guy who k's at a 40%+ rate in the 5 hole.

Kzone showed it as a strike on the espn broadcast.

I don't think you'll find a single person whom saw it believe Kzone isn't full of horseshit ball was high..makes no difference though next batter walked it off and that hapless brads lose again

Also managed the pen pretty well. Bases loaded with nobody out and the Nats scored 1 run.

Pitchers have to get outs. Hitters need to get timely hits. Ausmus deserves some blame, no doubt, but not tonight.....IMO.

Anibal Sanchez: The control was in and out. Anibal Sanchez has given up six home runs in 36 and two-thirds innings along with 22 walks.

Justin Upton: Another 0-4 day with three strikeouts.

J.D. snapped an 0/18 streak with a single in the top of the third.

Well we have all been worried about Nick's defense. At least he is hitting this year. Man what happened . We were up then me and the wife popped in a movie I turn it to the post Game show and hear Monroe say something that makes me think we won and I see we lost 5-4 :/

Damn It feels like we are eliminated already from contention sadly.

Disagree, not impressed much with him..Move upton to 7th or 8th and get JD back to the 5 spot already ffs it's rediclous how bad upton as been.

Wasted pinch hitting VMart in a situation he should have known they would walk him in. Save him for the next inning when he can pinch hit for the pitcher.

Will do..It was one of the worst strike calls I've seen all year, and I still say Harper yelled f you at the ump that tossed him during thier teams walk off celebration

It is.....but do you honestly believe they'd let Ausmus bench Upton, though? I don't.

Ausmus tried to shake things up.....it worked for a (very) short time. I actually give him credit for that. And you can't just assume JD wouldn't be in a slump no matter where he was hitting in the lineup.

I'm sure everyone would be killing Ausmus if he didn't do anything either.

I didn't say bench him, I said move him to 7th or 8th and take the pressure off him.. And JD does not belong at 2 he lead the team in hr's last year and you put that at 2? It's dumb.

Well if Nick keeps hitting maybe we can deal him at the deadline while he is worth alot. Might as well rebuild totally at this point if we are not going to contend.

Brad got completley owned six ways to Sunday in that 8th inning
And Miggy gave away an out on the bases which has a much greater impact than any managerial move, but nobody talks about that

Let's discuss this for a moment. DET as a whole, and Miggy last night, make the stupidest baserunning mistakes. What are the consequences? I don't remember a player being pulled from the game or given the next day off due to these miscues. Isn't the manager responsible for monitoring and correcting this lackadaisical play? IMO, Ausmus is responsible for the bad baserunning up until it does some overt action to correct the behavior.

So, Cabrera's miscue last night is still a reflection on Ausmus. Ausmus is not responsible for physical miscues/errors, but if left unchecked, he is responsible for the mental miscues/errors. But that is just my opinion.

As a "general" rule, I concede the notion that a manager, as long as the players haven't mailed it in, has very little effect over the course of the season. With that said, I think Ausmus is in the bottom third when rating MLB managers.

As Ausmus himself said the other day, the players need to perform to turn the team's recent slump around. On the other hand, Ausmus needs to put his players in the best position to succeed, and on multiple occasions tonight he failed at that.

It's easy to second guess someone with the benefit of hindsight (referring to the article). I didn't have a problem with any of the moves Brad made last night. The only thing he could have done differently would have been to use Salty before V-Mart but that would have likely resulted in Dusty bringing in the Lefty with the same result. Then all of the armchair managers would have ripped Brad for leaving V-mart on the bench in the 8th with a man in scoring position.

This team still has a very shitty bench which doesn't bode well for playing in NL parks.
