Tigers vs. pirates Game Thread May 18

He just threw the bat at the ball and got lucky. Still one hell of an outing by Verlander.

Wow so close, went with the bender one too many times and the slap slaps it to center. great outing none the less. Standing O! Nice to see the offense do well also. everybody contributed, cept for raburn but still great game all the way around.

Verlander pitching 9th inning,

mckenry fastball inside, swings and misses, curve just inside, slider swings and misses, fastball outside full count, grounder to Peralta throws him out,

harrison swings and misses a slider low, swings and misses another, reaches for and fouls it in the stands, curve inside, breaking ball off the corner and a little liner up the middle single.............crap,

walker fastball fouled back, grounder to Fielder throws to JV covering runner to second,

mccutcheon grounder to Peralta throws him out,

Verlander with a 1 hitter, Tigers win 6 - 0.

JV walks 2, gives up 1 hit and drops his ERA to 2.14, it's not a no-no, but I can't complain.

I was expecting him to try and get him to chase the high fastball since he swung at 2 in the dirt.

Dominant game by JV. He'll get to 3 another day. But you could tell he wanted this one. Tough way to lose it.

That curve was sick tonight. Bummer that's the pitch that ended up getting hit. Great game though!

Same here, I kept expecting to see him get blown away with a FB, wasn't meant to be I guess. I can't complain tonight. :)

Wow, the Pirates lineup is horrific.

After McCutchen they have one other player with an OBP over .300, and that's Neil Walker whose hitting .260/.313/.321.

And that's with a DH in their lineup.

I think JV goes the full 9 tonight with 12 strikeouts and no ER.

Guys, this one's on me.

I shoulda called for the no-no too.

Did anyone else think Peralta should have dove the hit? I doubt he could have gotten to it but it would have been close. In that situation, you gotta give it every chance to make the out.

What a shame, it was as good as JV has ever looked, but the guy got a little lucky.

But....is he an Ace? LOL.

I have watched the GameDay replay about 5 times, and I think he could have if he dived, but he would have never recovered in time to throw him out. Peralta's just not all that athletic.
