Tigers vs. redsox Game Thread July 31

matthewbmowery
As far as Leyland's comments, he may be boiling inside, but he's probably not going to show that on camera. Also avoids getting fined

KalineCountry
@matthewbmowery He's making 4 million a year he can afford a fine, He should be fined anyways for keeping delmon the hack batting 5th.

would they have called the game if Detroit was winning and Boston had bases loaded??? You already know the answer to that.

Tarp came out with bases loaded for Tigers? I call shenanigans.? that's a common theme from the tweets I've gotten tonite.

Exactly, and this is just ESPN's CY scoring.

Myself, I'd put Verlander, Price, and Sale [in no particular order yet] all ahead of Weaver just because of Weavers light workload and low strikeout totals.

The no-hitter is nice, but I don't know how much it really contributes to the CY factor.

Ranking them in WAR: Verlander 5.1, Sale 4.5, Price 4.0, Weaver 3.1

So let it be a motivator, they'll prolly come out and stank it up again tomorrow can't hit for shit. 5-9 killing us 6 ways to Sunday. I don't know what's worse JP working a 3-1 count into a dirt ball K, or Delmon practicing his wedge shot at the plate. I should start some kinda poll or something.

is that all you do is whine?

once Inge left, Delmon realized the team really needed someone who swings at EVERY pitch low and away darting out of the strike zone and every pitch that bounces up to the ****ing plate. I cant WAIT until he's gone, along with Boesch, and at this point Raburn too. They are all ****ing useless now, and Raburn is never going to break out this year. He should have shown at least some signs by now. Ditch them all, Im sure theres some high school outfielders off for the summer who could play better than them.

Tigers defend umpires? call on rain delay, game?s end.
from Jason Beck's Tigers blog

Verlander is first Tigers pitcher with 5-inning CG since Dan Petry on 9/20/83. First to do it in loss since Jim Bunning on 7/15/59.
Leyland: "Certainly, to call the game at this point was the right call. Could we have maybe gotten through that inning? Who knows?"
Verlander: "The last couple starts, I've just been a bit inconsistent. Gotta work to get it back. I have some work to do."
Leyland said he was planning on sending Verlander out for 6th until the delay. Once game was delayed, he was done.

How long has that been?

Don't be an idiot.

We all know that he has only been her for about a week. That doesn't change the fact that he has 3 errors in 28 chances.

Nothing I said isn't a fact.....don't be an idiot!

Judging a player after a week and calling him a bust is idiotic. Also calling Santiago better than Infante is idiotic.

You must be talking about something that someone else said. I just said that he has been terrible since he has been here. I never called him a bust and didn't say that Santiago should replace him.

Leyland toes line, Tigers balk at umps' call.
from espn

Tigers manager Jim Leyland took the high road after a 4-1 loss to the Red Sox that was called because of rain with the Tigers having the bases loaded with two outs in the sixth.

But according to another club official, the Tigers filed a complaint with the commissioner?s office when the game was postponed after an hour and 45 minute wait. The Tigers? contention was two-fold, according to the official: They questioned whether the game should have started at all, given the fact it was raining steadily from the first inning onward. But once the decision was made to play, the game should not have been halted at that juncture unless the umpires had a reasonable certainty the game would be resumed.

Otherwise, the official said, the Tigers should have been allowed to complete the inning -- there were two outs -- before play was interrupted.

awesome wouldn't that be something if they end up marking this one as a possible re-play if needed. Given it's the last series with Boston this year though I'm guessing it'll get tossed into the bin for dust collection. glad to see a complaint was filed at least though. totally agree that they never shoulda started the game in the first place, how often do you see games start while it's raining, has that ever even happened before?

honestly, I don't know what to believe from the last half hour.
Beck, Schmehle, and Field all say the Tigers and MLB both say there was no complaint filed over last night's game and weather delays.?

well there should be if they haven't honestly I'm having a hard time ever recalling a MLB game that was allowed to start while it was raining. But then again refresh my memory was it actually raining when the first pitch was thrown? now I'm trying to remember, maybe it wasn't
