Tigers vs. twins Game Thread April 1

Verlander pitching 4th inning,

moroneau fastball low, popped foul, changeup high and big swing and miss, changeup fouled, fastball grounder down the third base line double,

doumwit changeup high, another low, fastball outside, fastball strike call, fastball swings and misses full count, fastball fouled back, changeup swings and misses,

plouffe fastball outside, slider fly to center and Jackson has it runner tags up and goes to third,

parmalee fastball off the corner, fastball on the corner strike call, curve tails in, changeup grounder to Perlata throws him out,

Verlander with 70 pitches,

Tigers lead 3 - 0.

I was thinking the weather has a lot to do with it...and being the first game and all.

No need to worry about velocity in the 1st game of the year and in this cold of weather. Those factors probably are combining to limit JV's velocity by 3-5 mph.

Anyone else notice JV's velocity is noticeably lower then normal?

So is the gametime temperature, still 34 degrees, wind WNW at 13 mph gusting to 25 mph, that might be having an effect on Verlander or maybe he is intentionally pitching @ that speed.

Tigers batting 5th inning,

Cabrera takes a changeup strike call, fastball low, strike call, slider fouled back, grounder to short throws to first,

Fielder takes a changeup low, swings and misses a corner fastball, belt high fb fouled back, fly to shallow center shortstop runs back for it,

Martinez slider strike call, again, cutter inside, fastball fouled back, hard grounder to first,

Worley with 88 pitches,

Tigers lead 3 - 0.

Okay, guys, how about this season, nobody goes making any stupid posts on these game threads...

What if they are intoxicated? Seems like being two sheets to the wind might tend to encourage some members to make posts that other members who are sober would consider to be stupid. Should they get a mulligan if they admit that they are wasted?

KKKKKKK!!

Verlander pitching 5th inning,

dozier fastball low, swings and misses fastball in, changeup low, changeup high, changeup down the middle fly to deep center and Jackson tracks it down,

florimon fastball strike call, best curve of the day, curve in the dirt, pop fly shallow right single shit,

hicks throw to first, swings and misses a changeup at the knees, fastball fouled back, swings and misses a slider, rookie with a first game hat trick,

mauer changeup high, another low, outside, changeup on the black no call walk,

Willingham fastball strike call, slider strike call, doesn't chase the curve, slider freezes him,

Verlander with 91 pitches and 7 K's,

Tigers lead 3 - 0.

Maybe.

JV should get one more inning, I don't think they will let him throw too many more pitches since it is game 1.

Wow JVs outta there already?..was this pre-planned?

Gamecast is a little behind today, I posted that as I thought inning 6 was starting. Shows how much I know.

Dan and Jim were saying 110 pitch max for JV,

Smyly warming up,

I gotta believe the weather is why JV is out at 91 pitches. He threw 105 and 115 his last 2 openers.

Tigers batting 6th inning,

Dirks grounder to first pitcher covering,

Peralta and another soft grounder this one to third but flubbed safe on the E5, what the home scorer gives him a hit,

Avila grounder to second basemans left side runner out at second, safe at first,

Infante with a bloop to shallow left and the shortstop gets another in an adventure,

worley 101 pitches,

Tigers lead 3 - 0.
