Tigers vs. yankees Game Thread August 9

Baker and Delmon were the last guys on the bench, it made sense to run Laird for Avila because Laird runs significantly better.

Baker was probably being saved in case they used Delmon and we only tied, or if we needed another infielder for some reason.

The really stupid thing was not Laird for Avila, but letting Santiago and Berry make 2 outs, when, as much as I dislike him, Delmon is a far better option to get a fly ball than either of them, and a fly ball at least gets you another inning.

That was the biggest blunder of them all. Why let Santiago or Berry hit in that situation?

Leyland drives me to the point of insanity at times.

Upon further review, Detroit Tigers' Jim Leyland regrets giving bunt signal in loss to Yankees.

Leyland: I should have never thought about bunting.
from Jason Beck's Tigers blog

He should regret giving the bunt signal. It doesn't make much sense. You need a fly ball to get the tying run home from 3rd. Why would you sacrifice and out just to try to get the winning run to 2nd?
