To everyone who says Ebron can be like Graham

“They are not exactly the same (Ebron and Graham) but they are both athletic guys,” he said. “Jimmy’s got more length and Eric maybe has more quickness. Some things we did with Jimmy in New Orleans, we will do with Eric and there may be some things we do with Eric that we didn’t do with Jimmy.”

LOL. I just love how everyone on here immediately jumps to the "He's going to be like Graham" mentality, and then the dude comes out and says he's nothing like Graham. Gotta love it.

Bottom line is you don't need two 1st round TE picks to win a SB. The team is desperate for help in the secondary, and it looks like they could have even traded down and landed Dennard and another pick, but blew their proverbial load on a luxury pick. I named the last three super bowl champions, and their above average to decent tight ends that they won with. Stafford has enough god damn weapons, it's time to actually focus on parts of the team that need help.

You are missing the fact that there was NO chance they were going DB in the first.

They have Slay. They have Matthis. Those will be your starters this year, unless Houston comes back healthy.

They have Ihedigbo. They have Quinn. Those will be your starters this year.

They have Bentley in the nickle. They have Greenwood and Green. They have Carey.

Whether you like those guys or not, the management team feels they have their secondary. They may draft a developmental guy, but they weren't benching any of the starters this year to let a rookie play, so the DB pick would have been riding the pine for a year.

Instead, they got a guy who will play and contribute day one.

Well if management thinks the secondary is set, they shouldn't be management anymore.

And that's how this entire organization has functioned since the Matt Millen era. They want a guy that's going to step in and contribute immediately. They want to put those asses in the seats. Weeee Ebron, going to be zipping the ball all across the field. But, as I have cited before, and will continue to do so, you win Super Bowls with top defenses, and offenses that move the ball. You don't need 18 top WRs. You need a top WR, and some complementary pieces. This team has continued to ignore their glaring weakness for DECADES, and you would think ONE time would stumble onto fixing that solution. But they don't know. They get excited with flash.

Not a single guy you mentioned in that post puts any confidence in me about the secondary. But you draft a guy like Dennard or Clinton Dix who has proven themselves at an elite level, give them some time to turn into play makers, and you'll have a DB that can lock down a spot for years to come. You sign Pettigrew to a huge deal, and then you draft ANOTHER TE in the 1st round? It's a disgusting pick.

So, knowing a DB takes three years to develop, you think we should have drafted a guy this year in the first and either:

A) Played him over Matthis/Houston/Slay, even though he wouldn't be ready
B) Bench him until he is ready
C) Stunt the development of Slay and rotate them

We have drafted a bunch of corners in recent years. Don't you think we should let a few develop and quite changing them year after year?

Don't worry, I fully expect the Lions to have another chance at blowing a top 10 pick next year.

And just go ahead and take a look at Denver. Prime example. Hall of fame QB, unstoppable offense. And Seattle makes them look like chicken scratch. That's the type of defense that Lions fans deserve. And for a city that prides itself on hard work and toughness, it surprises me that this organization continues to draft flash.

And one of those guys was a first round pick.

Ink, you talk about this development like you have to handle it with kid gloves. So because you draft a DB in a prior year, you aren't allowed to take another one, but can continue to draft WRs and TEs because they impact immediately? That logic makes zero sense dude.

Doesn't that speak to even a stronger problem with the culture, that a team like Seattle can develop talent, but a team like the Lions has no clue how to find DBs, but is mesmerized by drafting speed and flash?

Last time I checked, most TEs and WRs don't take three years to develop.

CBs and Safeties do.

I'll do what I do every year..go into the season knowing the lions stink but hoping I'm hugely surprised..

The one thing I have with CB take three years is some one who doesn't play the first two, like Greenwood. How is he gonna be better in year 3?

Apparently the Lions had the 3rd best passing attack last year. That definitely needs improvement.
