Training Camp MEGA thread

Exactly. Goes both ways though. Notice how when a so called nobody makes a play on this team? It's automatically that the other player had to have been shit. Not that the player who's ballin' may be just a good football player...lol.

I don't get too caught up, but it's nice hearing some positives. Stafford and this offense is going to be fun to watch when it's all said and done.

Amen brother. I love hearing the good and the bad stuff but until I get a chance to sit back and actually watch it in action then I can't get to worked up about it. This team was so close so many times the last few years and their mentality ruined it. This year they have a guy with some sense at the helm and I think it will make all of the difference. He took a mediocre indy team to the superbowl with patchwork around Manning. He helped fix a broken offense in baltimore. This guy has real experience and real ability to lead this team but it will just take some work. I am not worried about what happens in July and August. When the season kicks off and we are on MNF and going against the Giants then I can start judging this team. Right now we have guys that are just trying to learn. I hate every time I read about an Ebron drop though...my drawback on him from the draft and it is already popping up. But hopefully he works it out.

were talkin about George Johnson...smoking our oline. George. not peppers....not Julius pepper. not peppers. George Johnson. George. George Johnson is smoking our oline.

Its the first padded practice and the oline is also trying to learn the new scheme and figure out where they are supposed to be. If in week 1 the gmen start ruining the oline I will worry then. Right now these same six guys were among the best last year and I am assuming they will be again until I have further proof.

We seriously talking about George Johnson?

It's always fun reading the responses to training camp... lol

Offense has a good day? "Our defense sucks!"

Defense has a good day? "Our offense sucks!"

Nature of the best.

Personally I don't take too much from this but when Stafford doesn't do well, nothing wrong with saying "same ole, same ole". 1st day or not.

Personally I always hope to find some good in both sides, and maybe they match up pretty evenly. I get nervous if the D stifles the O, or the offense torches the defense. Seems like so far so good

No. We need to take every story seriously and take it to mean that is EXACTLY how the season will play out.

Clearly, last year.....Patrick Edwards turned out to be the game breaker the Lions had been looking for opposite of CJ....just like numerous camp stories last year made reference to.

Unless it's a positive story about Stafford, then and ONLY then can we not believe it AND take that opportunity to bring up something he did last year that made us mad.

I did say that it doesn't mean much in the first practice.....its to be expected that the defense can be aggressive and dominate an offense that hasn't learned what to do yet....no brainer there....but obviously no one reads that part. my point was that we don't have that much time to put a new offense together....Lombardi has a miracle job on his hands....if we look great in week 1 it will be a job well done.

They have plenty of time.

Slay injury scare seems to be ok.

Ansah in pads testing the shoulder more. Seems to be getting closer to coming back. Then we won't have to worry about how George Johnson looks

Back on track

http://www.prideofdetroit.com/2014/8/4/5968101/lions-training-camp-notes-from-monday

- The Detroit Lions practiced in full pads on Monday, and there were several notable people in attendance, including team owner Martha Ford and five former players.

- Calvin Johnson and Kyle Van Noy both practiced on Monday after sitting out Saturday's scrimmage.

- Speaking of Van Noy, he was part of a 4-4 defensive front that the Lions showed on Monday. Per Dave Birkett, it included Van Noy, Ashlee Palmer, DeAndre Levy and Stephen Tulloch at linebacker, and Josh Katzenstein reports that the look featured only one cornerback.

- Well done, unknown Lions coach.
Justin Rogers: Lions DB breaks up a pass, a coach says, "good play, but make it a great play by turning your head."

- After Darius Slay left practice on Monday, the Lions gave first-team reps at cornerback to both Cassius Vaughn and Bill Bentley. Jonte Green and Chris Greenwood, meanwhile, served as the second-team corners.

- Kyle Meinke reports that Kris Durham and Bentley were involved in "some post-play shoving" at one point, but after practice, Durham chalked it up as something that just happens during camp.

- I think it's safe to say the biggest hit of the day was delivered by running back George Winn.
Kyle Meinke: RB George Winn just steam-rolled right over rookie safety Jerome Couplin. RIP.

Josh Katzenstein: RB George Winn just trucked the hell out of S Jerome Couplin. #Lions

Dave Birkett: George Winn, who ran hard in last week's scrimmage, just trucked Jerome Couplin drawing "Ooohs" from the sideline

Can't see the 4-4 being too much in a passing league. Obivious short yardage run downs without using a 5 man front maybe. Good to check out all the looks though.

Lions claimed WR Jon Baldwin after 49ers cut him. Former 1st round pick from KC.

Also read that Ebron had a couple of flawless practices over the weekend. Nice to hear...

It would have worked in Philly snowstorm.

This Baldwin kid just doesn't care...

work ethic and effort were his knocks coming out. He hasn't changed that to date. If being traded/cut from 2 teams now doesn't light a fire not sure what will. Worth taking a flyer cause its low risk but I always thought he was too big and slow to be a impact WR. he right around a 4.5 40 which isn't horrible but he doesn't seem to play that fast....and hasn't played that fast since being in the league.

Heard that about him as well. Basically walks in practice. Doesn't hurt to kick the tires on him.

Hes another jump ball guy. Stafford should be 100% completion in the red zone with calvin fauria ebron pettigrew baldwin. In reality though....baldwin doesnt make the team....hes probably fighting with broyles and durham for the last spot assuming ogletree is in as the 3rd wr.
