Welcome Back

Wild ass assumptions about Haden? The guy is one of the best CB's in the league. Period. You know it, I know it, anyone who talks about football knows it.

Stop comparing Florence to Haden. You are basically comparing Brady to Matt Cassel. It's a joke. Give it a rest.

They produced the same in 2013. I'm not comparing them overall. Just pointed out that based on game tape, they had the same ranking. I gave you a fact that they produced the same. Of course Haden is better based on age and skillset but Florence can produce with Dline help. He did in 2013.

PFF says the lions suck.

That is false. PFF says the Lions are one of the most talented teams.

Top 10 in coverage, Stafford top 4 passing QB. Great Oline and Dline that gets pressure. Top 5 LBs per PFF. They say Quin is a very good safety. They even had the Lions coverage overall at top 10 last year.

You lie hughes. You lie.

This is why I hate when people rely on stats as an evaluation. Stats lie, contrary to popular belief.

You know what stat lies.

19 ints for Stafford. Only morons think they were all his fault.

Stats are more reliable than PFF's subjective bullshit ratings.

Not bullshit. Indpendent. Good eye for the game tape.

Stats are useful with context. The context of Stafford 19 picks are 7 weren't his fault.

And you know that how? Because it favors the Lions? Do you communicate with the people who run PFF?

Here, I'll speak this to you simply: Drayton Florence does nothing other than add some guy who you can occasionally plug into a game. He's not going to be much of a help to a bad secondary. He's long in the tooth, and probably has 1 or 2 years left. If he sees the field a lot, that shows you how bad this secondary truly is.

He had a good 2013. If he repeats that, it's a great signing for Detroit. Same with Mathis other than picks.

And Mathis/Florence and Fuller/Dennard have the same shot at doing well as a rookie. Longer term you would want Fuller/Dennard. But we're talking 2014 only. The young guys have speed and skillset but could go through rookie troubles like Slay did. The old guys have the vet smarts and still a decent skillset.

Funny only four teams have two CBS who ranked top 25 last year in coverage right now
Seattle with Sherman and Maxwell
Cards with Peterson and Mathieu (nickel)
Giants with Rodgers Cromartie, Trumain McBride(backup) and Thurmond
And Detroit with Florence and Mathis.

Peterson is worth more than Florence and Mathis combined. Stop making the CBs out to be anything but below average. They are not good.

Both top 25 in the league. PFF truth nuke.

When PFF says coverage, what exactly do they base that on? That sure seems like quite a ridiculous metric to determine how good a player is.

Here's what I do know. Florence has been a journeyman CB the last 5 years, and he's going to be competing for a reserve spot. Mathis is old, and he's got 1, 2 years maybe. If you put those two on the field, they are not a top 25 duo of CBs. They would be near the bottom in the NFL. If PFF says they are similar to Seattle's CBs, or Peterson and Mathieu, it's time for you to find a new data outlet.

Based on how they played last year, they were near the top. Top 25 in fact. You can worry about their age all you want but it's a good combo to have. Florence is great insurance for Mathis. Slay is still the number 1.

And they base it on watching every snap and seeing if they stick with their guy (even if the ball isn't thrown their way) and track how many completion, yards , pass deflecitons, ints, incompletes and missed tackles they have.

So you tell me why he wasn't picked up until now, and is near the bottom of every list I've seen for free agent CBs? If he was as highly ranked as PFF says he is, he would have been swooped up and been offered a contract, not picked up two days before the 1st preseason game and is an "insurance policy."

Pretty easy to answer that. He's just not that good of a player. You'll plug him in here and there. But don't try and sell us that he's comparable to any top CBs in the league. How about instead of speaking for PFF, give me your own opinion?

Independent opinion by PFF. My opinion was up and down with Detroit in 2012. Good first 2 games, couple solid games after he broke his forearm. Struggled against Atlanta and Houston. But he can press (great for this system), he's a 12 year vet with knowledge of the game (very important) and can do well here. With a Dline in front of him, he can make plays and he is a decent willing tackler..

Mathis got picked up late last year and did well. Florence can do the same. Sometimes vets like that wait for camp to be almost over.

Just because he's old and available doesn't mean he will suck. Adding him made Detroit better.

he might make them better because the secondary isn't very good....he should fit right in!
