well anyway, it's good to see Raburn off to a good start

Then BB must be vastly superior to both making less than 800k.

I would not say that about Boesch, but he does have 2 things going for him.

He's a Left-handed power hitter.

He's still an unknown, he could be terrible, or he could be pretty good. We know what Raburn and Young are.

Sure.

Boesch surprisingly has developed into a solid big league player, superior, sure, though not vastly to both of Raburn and Boesch, not sure what this has to do with the Raburn vs. Young debate though.

Dude, they're the same guy. You need to stop looking too deep and realize they're interchangeable.

Except they are not!

Raburn is Willie Mays in the OF Compared to Young, there is that much difference.

And offensively, Raburn is still slightly better.

DY has a higher War on offense so why is Raburn still slightly better. 5.4>5.2, no?

The fact that they have similar oWAR while DY has nearly double the PAs only strengthens to argument in favor of Raburn.

Or I could point out Raburn's .770 career OPS vs Young's .749

Slightly better.

Raburn is now batting .087 for the season... I thought Jim and the Tigers learned the last two months of last season that he should only play verses LHP..

A slow start is not the same as bad overall. He's still an above replacement player offensively vs RHP for his career. AKA he's capable of being a starting player on a major league team. If he was truely terrible vs RHP he wouldn't be a major leaguer because 80% of pitchers are RH.

It is true that he crushes LHP, that does not mean he shouldn't play at all vs RHP. He should hit 9th against righties and he does, there really isn't an issue. A slow start is an all too convenient excuse for people who already do not like the player, because he's streaky, because he drops an occasional ball, ect., to rail on the guy for no good reason.

Dude, the guys batting .80. We're entitled to gripe.

Fair enough. But Raburn definitely catches more flack, batting .080 right now or not, seemingly for his propensity to strikeout and misplay the occasional ball. Oddly enough, Jackson strikes out more and everybody loves him. Similarly, Young plays worse defense and everybody loves him (well at least more people do than Raburn). It just does not make sense.

I suspect it has to do with none of us had to watch AJ or DY in Detroit as long. That's why Inge gets flack, we watch him struggle year after year.. And watch K Burn struggle early year after year..

Lifetime verses RHP he is .265/.308/.414/.722 and last year he regressed to a .245/.283 /.398/.681 and the only reason he ended up last year with a overall
.256 /.297 /.432 /.729 is he had a decent 2 months most batting verses LHP in 2011 which he did at a 274 /.321/.486/.807..He is garbage at second base and in the field in general and cost the Tiger games.. He takes months to heat up and you will notice he never has a high OBP...He is nothing more then a utility player who should be platooned only... Smokes used him after his disaster of a start last year brilliantly down the stretch..But after his hot start in Florida Mud-Hen had figured it out but Smokes forgot it is 40 degrees hotter in Florida then Michigan... Raburn is a bad National league player bamboozling Jim and the Tigers with flashes of hitting... I for one will never forget August 16th 2009 the great Raburn had 3 errors at 3rd base in a 10 inning 3-2 loss at KC , and the few games at second he cost the Tigers last year... it's the difference between not having to play a playoff game at Minnesota in 2009 and home field last year.. There are tons of players like him.. Use him right verses LHP and he is of some value but again Jim will use him and use him just like Inge.. Get rid of Inge and use Raburn right.
