What to do with Stafford

Getting back to the original question. If we could get some picks I would move Matt. But I doubt we do that.

Quinn did such a shitty job. How so we have only 5 picks ?

Even if he would come here why would Houston trade a young stud to a not so young not so stud. Even if they were equal value always take the young guy.

exactly. It doesn't matter. No way would Watson accept a trade to the Lions.

I still think if Matt gets traded anywhere, it will be to Indy. He would thrive there because he wouldn't be asked to do much. He probably would even win a playoff game, but very unlikely a SB.

Stafford and our #7 for DeShawn. Sounds more tempting if you say Stafford and Fields/Wilson/Lance. Solves their immediate and future QB concern.

Watson will require a minimum of three #1s and a great player with a lot of seasons left to contribute.

This eliminates the Lions as a contender for Watson.

Watson and Holmes. That goes well together

But not happening due to cap and draft capital reasons

Schefter reporting that Stafford and Lions are mutually in agreement that Stafford will be traded.

Lions appear to be wanting a R1 pick at minimum.

He has 2 years lefts and the money is cap friendly.

If I'm reading the cap space chart correctly...out of the teams that need a QB only the Jets, Patriots, Colts and Football team currently have the cap space.

Short term to the Colts seems like a good solution for them as they are in win now mode, have a good running game and good defense. I thought the Saints would be a great spot for him too, but they look like they have the worst cap space situation in the NFL.

I'm betting the Saints

I thought that would be a good fit too but the Saints have the worst cap situation in the NFL.

"The New Orleans Saints have one of the most challenging cap situations heading into offseason, as they are $93.7 million over the cap before making any contract adjustments, new signings, etc."

I hope he goes somewhere with a great run game a defense and fails miserably.

Well I wonder what we can get for him Now that they announced they were trading him ?

They had to... the goal is to get rid if him before the March bonus. Start the calls now.... you won't lose leverage if there's multiple offers.

I don't see any way the Lions trade him to anybody above them in the draft unless it's the Jets but it would be for the Jets #27, not #2

Saw a mock that had the Lions taking Wilson at #7 and Ja'Marr Chase at 12 with SF's pick.

Concentrate on the D for the rest of the draft and in FA and the Lions can win 5 games again, just like last year. Only difference, they would have some actual young building blocks vs. an aging vet that has proven he can't win here.

The bottom line is we were not resigning him in a new cba anyways. Trading him now is the right thing to do with a roster that is obviously rebuilding as much as they don't want to say it.
