With the top 10 pick in the draft...

Who do you take in the top 10?

  • A QB....Jared Goff might be the top qb avail

  • A LT....our oline blows. Move Reiff to RT. Ronnie Stanley.

    Votes: 14 63.6%
  • DT/DE Robert Nkemdiche. Our dline sucks now that we have no elite talent on it.

    Votes: 6 27.3%
  • A TE. We have needs everywhere....but we wouldnt be the lions if we didnt pick a TE in the top 10.

Were stuck in staffords contract for atleast a couple more years. As much as id love to blow it all up and start over were stuck with him. Ill go LT to try to make it bearbale while we have Stafford. Treadwell would be my favorite option to have on the team. If we could find a way to move calvin and his salary id be pumped to get him.
How does a wr protect the qb. A LT makes more sense.

I went Nkemdiche because our D-Line has been our strength and it's obvious how much that has been weakened. Time to rebuild that.

A new O-Coordinator could drastically help this shitshow offense, but without some real talent up front, there isn't much that's going to help this defense.

Unfortunately we need more than one good player to turn this around..

1st round Offensive Linemen is the new need moar weapons.

Forget top 10, Lions are currently #1 baby!!!! Woohooo!!!!!!!

I don't quite get the "Stafford's here, he's our best option." Well, there a much better options that will be coming out of college that can be developed into great starting QBs. This guy isn't. He is who he is. Year 7, hasn't won anything, all he does is remain inconsistent. If you can't trade him in the off-season, draft someone higher up and start pushing him.

Theory on Stafford is he has demonstrated ability to QB a top 5 offense prior to Caldwell castrating him. A better coach can get him back to that level. The problem when he was at that level previously was how the D was sub par.

He can put up points in the proper system. They need a top D to compliment that though. When they had the top D piece in place finally, the coach/OC destroyed the O. Gotta have both O and D be top level performers for this team to sniff a playoff win. Need a coach who can put those pieces together, but unfortunately Belicheat is still in NE.

Everyone knows I've been on the "stafford isn't the guy" train. ...but with that said i don't like the guys coming out of college this year. They are all 2nd rd picks or later that will be propelled into the 1st rd because there is no better option. If you're paying him. ...you should play him. If you can find a sucker to take his salary. ..do it for sure. But we're starting him until he's gone.

You don't need to be a 1st round pick to be good. But take someone.. Maybe he gets hurt, then what Dan O.? Denver traded Cutler. But they hated him, the coaching staff here generally like Matt.

I just don't see the connor cooks of the world coming in and being able to lead this team to anything worthwhile. And i really like connor cook......the problem would still be Stafford's salary. The team can't improve until it's gone. ...

Maybe he gets hurt and the backup shows he can play? Look at Dallas, they could be 2-8 by the time Romo returns. Maybe the worse backup in the league. Not saying you're going to get a Rodgers but he sat for awhile.. Maybe a Brady.

22.5 million cap hit next year. 11 million if cut. Save 11.5 million if we cut him after this year. A top draft pick would make far less. So cap wise we can, the question is will management have the balls.

Not a chance. They love Matt. Previous management loved him too. You don't need a prototypical passer any longer. No need for a rocket arm, pocket passer etc. If you have other players that have talent you can win with a Nick Foles type.

Nick Foles has an great arm, I guess I don't understand your post at all, Mitch. You say, no need for a rocket arm, pocket passer type, then say you can win with just that.

I guess I missed it on his resume. They always describe Matt that way but I don't see Foles being described as someone who "can make any throw."

As far as your next question.. It's assuming we didn't have Matt and Foles would save us cap money to get better players.. Harder said than done I know.

I know one guy I would take though, Alex Smith. He did have one bad game this season but he's usually very proficient. And he's much cheaper but you better have a good running game.

A game manager behind an extremely weak oline? How but we just agree that not many would look good behind this pos line? It doesn't matter how well someone else "could" do as a qb here. We aren't going to see anybody besides Stafford for quite a while.

These are all just hypotheticals. If Matt is gone, for example, the money could be used for a cheaper reliable QB plus some other players. Matt's problem isn't the OL. It can be trouble but when he has time he's still inconsistent as hell.. In past years the OL wasn't as bad and he still was the same Matt. Missing wide open guys.. A bad OL is just a bad excuse for a bad QB.

It shouldn't be a surprise. He was the same way in college.
