  • A LT....our oline blows. Move Reiff to RT. Ronnie Stanley.

  • DT/DE Robert Nkemdiche. Our dline sucks now that we have no elite talent on it.

  • A TE. We have needs everywhere....but we wouldnt be the lions if we didnt pick a TE in the top 10.

Shitty defense and a porous oline is what's wrong with the Lions, not Stafford. Have I ever been one to shy away from blasting Stafford even when he doesn't deserve it,lol? This shit storm has less to do with him, and more to do with the Lions in general. I honestly don't see how anybody can point their finger at him with what's going on. We've got players calling out coaches (rightfully so) and a front office that is allowing a playoff team to fall on its face due to blundering coaches. No quarterback can play lights out here with what's going on right now. It's not the qb, it's the Lions as a whole.

So you are saying Stafford has been playing as well as could be expected?
Yes the Oline has been bad, but Stafford has been equally as bad. Staring down WR still, Ill advised INTs, missing the open WR. Calling his own protection he needs to take some responsibility for confusion among the line. Staff has admitted the defense have confused him by faking blitz's. He changed protection that allowed a free rusher to come, but for some reason he didn't realize this and stood there like a dope and took a big hit.

When Manning against us changed protection to allow a free Ziggy to come through, right after the snap Manning moved to his right and got rid of the ball quick because he knew what was coming.

Stafford is in his 7th year and still shows his faults he had coming out of college.

There just is always an excuse on why this guy can't do his job.

You don't seem to understand. Lets say the OL blocks well on a play, it does happen from time to time. Open guy, easy throw - still misses regularly. And for the 1000x2 time no one blames Matt for all of it. If Matt could just make more plays when the OL does fine we might be better have won a game.

Every one, players and staff are doing a shitty job. Doesn't excuse all of Matt's poor play.

And the best response would be to look at last year, 2013, and 2012. 51 games of suck. Is that the OL fault?

I think Stafford has regressed the past few seasons (Basically since his 2011 monster year). While I don't think the 0-3 start to the season is entirely on his shoulders, I do think he needs to play MUCH Better going forward. He simply hasn't performed well enough when needed...

That being said, I am not ready to 'throw in the towel' on the Stafford era in Detroit, as I do think he can be an above average/good QB in this league. I think his confidence is a bit shaken, and I also think he has gotten rattled/has a case of 'happy feet' due to the high amount of hits hes taken the past 1+ year.

As for calling protection/adjusting the blocking scheme, he has never been asked to do that up until this year (to my knowledge). He is a 7 year vet, but Raiola handled all of those in game/blocking adjustments his first 6 years in the league, so to expect him to be a master after essentially 3 games, is a bit much.

I also think some of the INT's hes thrown this year might have to do with the Defense knowing the plays...during the last INT against Denver (where he stared down Megatron), I seem to recall the defender breaking for the ball before Stafford even threw it...now that was a bad decision by Stafford, and he DID 100% stare down Calvin, but I cant help but think that under 'normal situations' the pass would have been, at worse, deflected/broken up, not picked off. I could be wrong, as I only saw the play during the game, and didnt re-watch it afterwards.

Basically, I am willing to give Stafford 1 more shot with a new OC before letting him go (in my head lol). This year is a wash for me, I expect nothing while Lombardi is calling the shots..

I believe 2012 and 2013 were blamed on a lack of "weapons". A QB needs elite weapons...Not like you can just pick people off the scrap heap (Like a James Jones for example) and expect him to come in and catch TDs and be effective....oh wait. Bad example.

2014 was squarely on the running game. Yes he had solid protection and a running game for the second half of the season and yet somehow played worse in the second half..but that is because he was emotionally scared from not having a good one for the first half of the season. Guy just can't catch a break. What QB can put up good numbers with an above average running game (2nd half of the season), top 3 defense, an elite #2 WR, a top 10 draft pick at TE, and Calvin Johnson. He's not a miracle worker...not to mention he was planning a wedding with his overly defensive cheerleader wife.

Its hard to counter that argument...I wish I had a good response to it, but those two years are baffling to me. I think having a hobbled Calvin and basically fringe NFL players as WR's in 2013 hurt him stats wise, but thats not nearly a good enough 'excuse'...

Stafford is honestly a baffling player, I like him as a person, and think he has a good head on his shoulders, and tons of guts, but he just hasnt improved at ALL in 4 years....he shows flashes, whether its for 1 throw/1 drive/1 game, or even the occasional multi game stretch, but ultimately cant get it done.

However, I cant help but feel like if the Packers or Patriots, or hell, even an 'above average' team like the cardinals or bengals had him as a QB, he would produce at a top 10 level...

He's had better blocking in the past, and he still didn't shine. He's a one-year wonder.

There is zero harm in drafting a QB in the draft. Zero. Almost every team seems to take a flyer on 5th, 6th round QBs even if their situation is all set. Why not use a 2nd, 3rd rounder on someone? It's not like our drafts ever pan out anyways.

I agree w/ the need to draft a QB this year, mostly because this draft seems to be QB heavy, and I think its just good practice to have a young QB in the system...But, I wouldn't draft one before the 3rd round. 4th round would be ideal for a QB (in this draft) IMO...

If the Patriots can draft a QB in the 4th round (Mallet a few years ago), the Lions sure as shit can draft a QB before the 6th/7th round.

Heck last year the Patriots spent a second rounder on a QB.
On a side note...I would love the Lions to trade for Garoppolo.

It's funny, and he's not the only one they drafted in past years, that they have HOF Brady and still draft a QB. GB had Favre, still drafted QB. Montana, Steve young, though that was a trade. Don't need to wait on drafting a QB when you need a QB.

3rd-4th good for me too.

oh crap I forgot about Garoppolo/didnt realize he was a 2nd round pick...but ya - exactly. haha

I get that feeling too. How disgusted would everybody be if he won a sb after leaving Detroit, or even just got a few playoff wins? All these years downgrading him, only to have him flourish elsewhere.

If he was the same play it wouldn't bother me at all. Which of course he would be. Team wins SB but one man can help greatly get you there.. I just want where we can say "Our QB got us that win, he stepped up big time." It's been way too long.. That's not right.

It wouldn't bother me if Stafford became elite somewhere else, but it would shock the hell out of me. Hell even if he made a deep run I wouldn't trust him the next year. The only thing he has proven is he is the least consistent and least efficient QB. However he does have some ability where he can put together a great game and win a game for you with his arm. Those just are
getting to far in between.

However him being cut might be what he needs, I still think he believes he can just go out the and sling the ball to victory. It probably won in high school, it won against shitty teams in college. It works occasionally in the NFL.

This franchise, at least publicly, talk about him like he is some great QB and he just needs to keep doing what he's doing. Possibly because of this he never seems to take on a lot of responsibility about his failures.

If he wasn't so likeable as a person there would be more people talking about how bad he is. Him and Cutler are essentially the exact same QB, only difference is one is likeable and one is not.

I'm ready for the Lions to move on, it's getting tiresome watching other QBs drop in passes to WRs for completions, that we say well he was covered so Stafford didn't have anyone open. But that occasional rifle of a throw in the middle of the field that happens every 5th game that only a couple other QBs can make keep us coming back for more.

Cornerback in the 6th round.

I agree, clean house. Really not liking what I'm seeing of this Tomlinson kid. On one play he looked like he was trying to bear hug a defensive linemen and they hadn't even engaged yet. Very strange
