injuries

bad luck? It happens to every team...a good team can overcome this type of shit.

Actually, it doesn't happen to every team. That's bullshit. Sure, injuries happen to EVERY team, yes, but losing players like Levy and Slay is beyond huge. You can't replace that type of talent and expect the same production. We need to hope and pray that Levy is back soon and Slay plays on Sunday. If not, we're ****ed..

Slay played 95 of the 97 defensive snaps. Levy is their best LB but they knew he was going to be out prior to the game so they should have been prepared. If a team can't overcome the loss of one LB then they are not a good team.

They can overcome it. Mathis, Ihedigbo and Tulloch will play better. Rivers and Allen had a great game. Tip your cap to the short routes.

The Dline played well and Quin played well. Wilson was average.

Take off Sherman and Bobby Wagner and the Seahawks are garbage too. That is what Slay and Levy out means. Hell take away Chancellor/Maxwell and the Hawks were garbage in Week 1.

Slay is a #1 CB in this league and Levy is a top 5 LB in the league today. Losing these guys is devastating.
I agree that they need to be ready. And going into the season our LB corp was supposed to be a strength. I'm not panicking yet. This is a good team....

We lost to Carolina early last year with some bad defense(and they have a worse offense than SD) too and 3 turnovers. Not worried.

Loadholt, Nelson, Suggs, Benjamin, Thomas. Yes, losing a top player happens to a lot of teams. Not exclusive to the Detroit Lions.

Loadholdt is not a top player. We didn't have Waddle by the way. Or Warford.

The thing that you don't get is we are not talking about one player for the Lions. We are talking about Warford, Waddle, Levy and Slay now. 4 guys not 1. And Levy and Slay are very very important. More important than Nelson and Benjamin. On the same level as Suggs but again we are talking about two Lions an the entire right side of the Oline. Man Ram did well and Laken did solid but with rookie struggles.

Back 7 injuries can get exposed in this league. They are the worst kind of injuries. 2012 and 2013 had alot to do with secondayr injuries for the Lions. WR injuries you can work around as long as it's not like 2 guys but you need to have another guy that can play (Lions finally got that with Tate). See Calvin injury last year.

Tulloch didn't step up in one game. He can next game. He's not doomed to play poorly every game. Get that out of your heads right now. Bynes did fine too.

but Slay played most of the game. Levy is really good...not sure he is a top 5 LB but even if he is...a lot of teams lose a great player and overcome it....especially if they know he will be gone prior to the game. I think most of that is probably on the coaching staff.

It wasn't the staff. Tulloch and Mathis had a fluke bad game. They can rebound. They aren't doomed to play at the same level in Week 1 for eternity.

And give kudos to the Chargers too. They ran some good routes and they have plenty of weapons. McCoy knows what he is doing. Rivers is typically a top 10 QB. Allen,Floyd,Green and Stevie Johnson are talent. I don't know if we'll play another team with that much firepower besides Green Bay.

Seattle, 49ers, Cardinals,Saints, Rams, Bears, Vikings, KC,Phi,Den,Oak I just don't see the amount of Charger weapons. There are some good ones but not quite 4.

GB can match due to Rodgers

What are you bitching about? Now we have a built in excuse for our loses. True 1-0. Slay and Levy out this game? Hey Vegas, put me down for a nickel on a the Lions to true cover this Sunday.

I don't want injury reasons. I want DESERVED health for our team and to dominate everyone like we would if they are healthy.

No team in ANY sport deserves anything. Losing Levy sucks, but you spent the entire offseason praising about how deep this team is. What I saw was a team that got up big and allowed the opponent go on a 30-0 run. Were you talking about how bad the injuries were when the Lions were up 21-3??? No, just when they imploded it became the talking point.

Only the Lions give up 30 straight points.

We are deep. Bynes did well. Tullcoh and Mathis and Ihedigbo had a fluke bad game. Chargers do have talent.

But it's pretty clear Levy would put a quick stop to those crossing routes. Bynes was fine (aka good depth), but he's still not a superstar like Levy.

And the Lions do deserve to have more players healthy, especially in Week 1.

And I would say the Warford and Waddle injuries caused the loss more than the Levy injury.

Seattle gave up some points without Chancellor. And he's not even an injury.

And injuries are more than just Levy.

Whitehead was on injury report (elbow), Van Noy has been hurt alot which hurt his development and Tullcoh is recoveringfrom an injury. It's not just Levy injury for these LBs.

Entire right side of Oline. ENTIRE right side. We have the depth for that but Laken is still a rookie and Lucas isn't the same as Waddle, but is a fine backup. And Warford is our best Olinemen.

Slay for Week 2. Plus Alex Carter hurt (our outside CB depth). This would leave Wilson and Lawson. It's not just one injury at outside CB either.

Whitehead was on a injury report on Wed only. Fully participated Thursday and Friday. No Excuse.

Van Noy has been healthy enough that if he has shown anything he would be farther up the depth chart. Talent issue, not an injury issue.

ENTIRE RIGHT SIDE. OMG, that sounds disastrous......oh wait that is two people. Warford was back at practice. Waddle has yet to prove he is a long term Starter, has some nice games, but some stinkers. Not a huge upgrade over Lucas.

Waddle is a huge upgrade. Warford is our best lineman. We are talking about Week 1 a game we lost due to pressure on Stafford. Entire right side gone affects everything.

Van Noy hurt has hurt his devleopment. He has plenty of talent. Not a talent issue. GTFO with talent issue.

You ignored Tulloch injury too.

Levy, Tulloch, Van Noy injury issues. But we'll see if Tulloch can rebound.

Lions get Slay,Levy,Warford, Waddle back and we'll win a ton of games.

Waddle's okay. Let's not make him out to be Orlando Pace. He's aight.

What about Tulloch? He sucked... He's a 30 year old linebacker coming off a horrible injury, and it showed. Dig has never been a good guy in coverage, he'll fly around the ball but he gets beat all the time on those intermediate routes. Mathis is over the hill.

Let me know if Van Noy's healthy or ever good enough to play. Until he does, he's a bust.

The Lions defense isn't as good as you panned them out to be all off-season. If that's a top 5 defense we saw on Sunday, maybe we all shared a bunch of peyote before the game.

You are overreacting like an idiot.

Levy was HURT!!!! Tulloch and Mathis and Ihedigbo all can be good going forward. They each had one or two bad games in 2014 or 2013 in Tulloch's case. That doesn't mean overall(over 16+ games) they were bad all year in coverage. Stop overreacting to one bad game.

The Lions defense can be a top 5 PPG defense. They need Levy and Slay healthy to do that.

For instance, Tulloch had two bad coverage games in 2013. And yet was a top 3 rated ILB in coverage in the entire league.

Stop overreacting to one game.

This doom and gloom for the defense just shows your true hater mindset.

Saying you had a fluke bad game insinuates it was there first bad game by either player. Which isn't true at all.
