2016 Draft- Who ya got?

If you are going to talk about drafting a QB. Stafford should be part of the topic.

Sorry to say guys, but this is the ONE thread where discussion of Stafford (if he sucks or if he doesn't) was kind of on point. LKP is right on this one.

It's a discussion about the draft. If you're going to discuss drafting a QB #1, then it's fair game to discuss the merits of such a pick and whether or not it's warranted.

This is about the only thread I have seen in a couple of years now that turned to "Stafford sucks... No he doesn't" that I didn't actually roll my eyes at.

If you go back and look at how/why Stafford entered the conversation in this thread, it didn't fit at all. Just more beating of an already mutilated horse.

Sure Stafford belongs in the conversation to a point. But when it just devolves into the same old bullshit conversation that hasn't been productive in 2 years, it doesn't belong.

See, I would say it belongs... we're just sick of reading it. I know I am tired of the same old drones whining on endlessly with the same arguments, like we all don't know the same old opinions already.

But I can't say this wasn't the one thread where it was fitting. It just would have been easier to tolerate if there weren't 9,000 threads already stuffed full of this crap where it wasn't fitting.

I'm still of the opinion that we fix the O-Line this offseason, look for a QB in 2016. Let Stafford get murdered one more year until we're sure the line is at least serviceable.

Why not get a QB this year and let him sit and watch what not to do, and address the Oline in 2016. Obviously it's not easy to draft Oline either. We've spent high picks on it. NO sure thing it will be better in 2016. We need to find a QB sooner instead of later.

This team HAS to take a QB, especially with this total overhaul coming. And there's only a couple guys worth using the #1 pick. After that, the drop-off is huge.

I don't trust the Lions to not feed our next 'franchise QB' to the wolves. I also don't love the QBs coming out but that's less relevant since I'm not a scout.

And of course it's no sure thing that the OLine will be better. It's also no sure thing that the QB you draft won't be awful. Either path you choose, they have to have another draft similar to 2013.

I would prefer to keep Stafford and build the lines through the draft. I don't mind drafting a developmental QB in the later rounds. But every Super Bowl contending teams have good to great lines.

Based on PFF this is how the Olines of the playoff teams ranked last year:

The ones in red were in the conference championship, bolded were the superbowl teams. Underline won the superbowl.

Okay. I may have been off in my Oline assessment but I was talking about both O and D lines.

I also thought Seattle and NE had better Olines than that but I don't breakdown tape like they do. Maybe my eyes deceive me.

Well that's the thing. No matter who gets drafted, they just have to hit a homerun. If it's a quarterback or an offensive linemen or a defensive end.

That's why I think we should go left tackle with the number one pick, move Reiff to the right side. If the pick is a good one, it improves both tackle situations, which will help everybody. I also think we need to get a veteran center in free agency. Somebody with a lot of experience making line calls. I don't care if he is an average center, but if he does well making calls and understands the offense it's a massive upgrade from that piece of shit Swanson.

"There's a lot going on with Matthew Stafford now ... he was benched earlier in the year which, for a franchise quarterback, never happens," Rapaport said. "I'm also told that Joe Lombardi, the former offensive coordinator, was frustrated that he couldn't put enough on Stafford's plate, did not think he was able to handle it, was not taking as much control of the offense as the coaching staff wanted.

"In fact, new offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter actually had to simplify things for Stafford. All of which, in part, leads to the conclusion that Stafford's days in Detroit are very much numbered."

I'm actually really curious to know what direction the new regime decides to go, what system they want to implement and how they want to build it. Also what plans they have with the existing young talent.

They could literally start anywhere at this point since it looks like nearly every position group is lacking in some way.

It might not improve the team but I always wanted the defense to run a 3-4. Maybe that's a possibility. Long way off I know with needed a GM and possible coach. I know we need much help but I'm curious if the new regime interviews any of the those top QB's before draft time. That might tell us something.

Putting a rookie QB behind a porous, swiss cheese offensive line is a recipe for disaster. I don't want to see our next drafted QB get David Carr syndrome and never recover.

I know the argument will be made that "just because you draft a QB doesn't mean he will play". Let's be real. If the team flounders and you have 'nothing to lose', the new QB is going to see snaps. I just don't like it. Fix the line, then get your QB.

It's true though. Bring in a new QB and let him learn the game from the sidelines. Stafford can still be our QB next year.
And you can always find OL in the later rounds.

Btw, Grandy, where'd you find that Caldwell pic? Most emotion I ever seen on that man.

so you don't think that a team needs a good OL and DL? Those are the two most important units on a football team.

Where in my post did i say that you dont need a good OL or DL? I said you can find them later in the draft. Those positions are usually always loaded in the draft....

Funny because Lombardi came out a year ago and basically said that Stafford's football IQ is through the roof and he was a sponge. Saying that even Drew Brees couldn't learn as fast as Stafford.
Then Cooter comes out and tells everyone that they're simplifying the OL blocking schemes because the OL pretty much sucks donkey dick.

I'm all for change and evrrything, but who's the liar?

Well Lombardi wasn't even in New Orleans until Brees's second year and was a offensive assistant and eventually QB coach, so I doubt he know exactly how fast Brees picked things up his first year, since he wasn't even there.

Then why did he say it?
